Scandic Hasselbacken is located on Royal Djurgrden, just ten minutes from the city centre and close to museums, art galleries, parks and other nearby attractions. Djurgrden provides the tranquillity you usually only find in the countryside. Hasselbackens original building dates from 1925 and has always been a place for gala dinners, feasting and celebration. A complete renovation begun in 1989 and was finished in 1992 along with an adjoining 112-room hotel extension. With its mix of classic style and modern quality, Scandic Hasselbacken is a unique hotel experience.

A Gem in the Royal Park

This hotel was absolutely adorable and Djurgarden is my favorite island in Stockholm as it used to be the royal park and has open grass areas, forest and meadows. Staff at Hasselbacken were very friendly and the breakfast was to die for (so many options--definitely try Swedish pancakes and rose hip soup). I was worried because Hasselbacken was sandwiched between Skansen (the open air museum) and Grona Lund (the amusement park) but I didn't hear any noises from either. The bus picks you up almost right outside the front door and you are virtually down the street from the Nordic Museum, Junibacken and the Vasa Museum. I will say that everything in Stockholm is very walkable. It was an easy walk (about 15-20 minutes) on Hamngatan to Nybroplan, Sergels Torg, the main shopping areas and Kulturhuset. If we weren't in a rush we also walked to Central Station, City Hall and the other islands that make up Stockholm. My only issue with Hasselbacken was that the water in the shower didn't drain right so there was always a huge puddle on the floor after use. The hotel also only had four bikes (that were free) to use. Every time I wanted to take one they were gone.

Everything in Stockholm is a lot closer than one would think. We walked pretty much everywhere.

Nice Venerable Hotel

Nicely modernized old hotel with great breakfast buffet. Lots of well behaved kids. Room locks required you to insert key on leaving to lock. No-one told us this so we probably left our room unlocked for the first day.

Nice oasis of calm in big city

We chose this after a 2 week luxury cruise and it could not have been a better end of trip. This hotel caters to families and those of us who want to spend time in Djurgarden - Skansen oasis of nature minutes from bustling city. Our superior queeen room was large and well appointed and we appreciated the chance to be away from nearly all Americans.

In beautiful garden setting

Located o the beautiful garden island of Stockholm. Easily accessible to center of town & next door to Skansen [open air museum]. Other museums a 5 min walk so all around great for sightseeing. Comfortable rooms & desk staff were pleasant & helpful when prodded although not all that forthcoming at first. Awesome breakfast buffet & beautiful garden setting which was restful & enjoyable. Small workout room we did not use... We loved our experience & would return there again.

Money-saving tip: Not Applicable

The Stockholm card was fantastic in saving us money & also freeing us from having to constantly dip into our wallets. For a given fee it covers museums & other attractions as well as public transportation which was great. Also dont miss out on Millesgarden the sculpture garden a little way out of center city but accessible by public transport. Carl Milles was an awesome & prolific sculptor worth the trip.
