Wonderful holiday base
We found this hotel to be perfect as our base while in Switzerland for six days. Easy to access city center using train (7 minutes) or tram (more regular but longer). From Bern station we took daily train trips to Luzern, Lausanne, Zurich, Montreaux and Interlaken. Modern shopping and restaurants in hotel complex. Our room was very comfortable and large for European standards. Excellent and helpful staff.

BRILLIANT HOTEL - Good Value and Clean
Easy to find the hotel. Very helpful staff. Local train line 50metres from hotel takes only 8mins to reach the town centre of Berne. Spotlessly clean very comfortable and worth the 75 Euros we paid for one night plus 8 Euros for the car park and 3 more for local tax. Didn't have breakfast. This was early October 2010.

Holiday inn
This hotel was a little tricky to find but the train into the city was across the street. There was a noisy local event directly in front of the hotel early in the morning which interferred with my sleep. Also, the glass doors for the bathroom did not keep light out of the room.I wanted to take a bath and do my hair after my husband went to bed but the bathroom light interferred with his sleep.

Outside the City
This hotel is a considerable distance outside the city. There is a train right in front of the hotel that will get you to the city in about 5 minutes, the problem is that the train is really pricey, $3.80 one way. We chose this hotel because we weren't sure about noise staying in the city center, however, we quickly discovered that Bern is a very small city and therefore noise would not have been an issue staying in the city center and would have saved us about $8.00 per person per day in transportation. The hotel, however, is a very nice hotel. The rooms were exceptional and the hotel has a fitness room and free internet stations. The hotel is also connected to a shopping mall where several restaurants and bakeries for breakfast are located, the hotel restaurant is pretty pricey. All hotel staff speak English and are very helpful. This hotel is very nice and we were not disappointed at all but we would not stay here again due to the location.

The city of Bern is basically closed on Sundays so plan shopping on other days and site seeing on Sundays. In the summer, the locals go to a swimming pool/park in the middle of town and float down the river - a great Sunday activity.

Clean and Modern
This hotel was very nice, one of the best on our trip! It was a brand new hotel with lots of modern furniture and amenities in the room. When you check in they give you a warm chocolate chip cookie, which made our stay after a long journey there. Also if the hotel restaurant is not your style, it's a little pricey, there's a door that goes right into the mall from the hotel with lots of dining options and a grocery store. It's a little bit out from the city center but a bus stop right outside the hotel makes up for that.
