Good value, good location
The Senator was ideal for us - large room, comfortable bed, close to reasonably priced takeaways and restaurants, quiet, but close to the tram which gets you to the centre of Zurich, the University and the lake very quickly. If you want to walk it's about 20-30 minutes to Bahnhofstrasse.

We would recommend the Doner Kebab place round the corner. Just a tramstop or so away is the Migros supermarket with good takeaways and reasonably priced food (nothing is cheap in Zurich).

Sleepless in Zurich
You get what you pay for, or even less.
We stayed two nights at the Senator, one at the beginning of our trip and one at the end. The first room looked like a hospital room; cold, unattractive and sterile. There is a bar next to the hotel which was open until 4am which was very noisy. It is a busy noisy area of the city and impossible to sleep. Bad ventilation. The beds were incredibly hard as well. I would not recommend this hotel or return to it.

Look for a hotel in old part o the city. It is closer to everything and has many places to eat and great sites to see as well.

This is no where a 4 start as it claims! I have been to 3 stars which were far better than this. It feels small, outdated and rooms are small! Within 12 minutes from Central station including walk. Near by road and pub makes it noisy at day and night times. Staff were helpful though!

Only go if this is the cheapest option. If you want somewhere central then choose another place although its 10 minutes tram ride from Central Station.

The first hotel on arrival in CH
The hotel Senator was pleasant enough. As it was my first night, and experiencing some jet lag, I did not take many notes. Easily accessible from the Zürich HB (main train station). Buy a ticket inside the station (1 or 2 CHF), then take either Tram 4 or 13 to Escher-Wyss Platz. Walk one block south on Hardbrücke and look for Heinrichstrasse on your left. The street is small and the hotel is tucked away and easy to miss. The one night was perfectly acceptable. A typical stay in a Swiss hotel. Note that this not really a tourist section of the city.

Being a 4 star hotel, I expected
Being a 4 star hotel, I expected to find coffee and tea facilities in the hotel room, but apart from a kettle, there were none. Also both soap dispensers in the bathroom weren't topped up all during our stay. Bar and restaurant prices were over the top.

The location is ok, it is in the West, so the tram connects easily to the city centre (5 stops away). You can actually walk to the city centre in 15 minutes or less. The room was much smaller than I thought, and very outdated. The service was good, except during busy periods (when just trying to get your room key). The internet was reasonably priced, but if you don't have a laptop, the wireless keyboard is very hard to use and since the tv screen is up so high, you may get neck strains too. Internet was rather slow too. Overall, it is an average place, but given the high prices in Zurich, this hotel was reasonable.
