Sawasdee Welcome Inn Bangkok

A reasonable value for a hotel within walking distance to the Grand Palace compound and Wat Pho. It is very close to the National Theater. The tourist "neighborhood" was very noisy for New Years eve but moderately noisy otherwise. Upon arrival it became obvious that they had *not* actually reserved a room as they walked us down a block to a branch hotel called the Sawasdee Smile Hotel which they claimed had equivalent rooms. There appear to be numerous Sawasdee hotels scattered around Bangkok. The "towels" given us were actually two thick bath welcome mats. More of an issue, the room window with lever panels would not close completely which provided some mosquito access. Security wise the window wouldn't open either and there was no problem from that standpoint. The air conditioner was actually over-sized for the room and was of the type that shuts off when the key is removed. The room did include a small refrigerator which did stay on even without the key. We found the staff courteous and helpful. Wifi reception was only good in the open air lobby/restaurant area but a plug outlet was available near the couch. The included breakfast (egg choice) was good one morning, but the next they only had the continental option.

[...] The building needs attention, but the rooms are relatively clean and the breakfast is good. Stay here if you understand what a basic guesthouse means in Southeast Asia. I think it is a good value.

This place clearly could benefit from attention, but the maids keep it acceptably clean. The area is nice and it is central. breakfast is good, with a few choices. Do not expect western standard for the room, but the bed linens are fine, and the room reasonably clean.

Good value for money. Could have been a bit cleaner. Close to Khao San Road and other places. Best part of our room was the paint on window.

Ok for low budget travelers who wants aircon,hot shower and tv. Short walk to all u need and quiet at night. Nice and friendly staff.

With some imagination I can see how the photos on the web could have at some time resembled the very run down Sawasdee. The hotel has no fire safety features and is 'designed' like a rabbit warren, even the porter got lost showing us to our room. The room was extremely run down with some holes in the walls. The staff were particularly unhelpful, no walking maps of the area and seemingly little local knowledge. While their security boxes are 'free' they charge for a lock which is frankly a bit misleading.

das einzige posiive bei diesem Hotel ist die Lage, ansonsten sehr heruntergekommen und schmutzig. Die Wollbettdecke war nicht bezogen und somit habe ich es vorgezogen sie nicht zu benutzen. Frühstück war für den Preis in Ordnung.

Bon pour une ou deux nuits. Etat des chambres limite. Ventilo et clim en mauvais etat et très bruyants. Fenetre cassée, ne s'ouvre plus.Fuire les chambres sans ouvertures vers l'extérieur. Petit déj et accueil sympa. Bon emplacement.
