Good location right by the Blue Mosque, but also on train tracks
Decent place on charming old-world street. Free breakfast was good. Room spotless, newish furniture and bathroom elements. Free wifi. Nice rooftop terrace. I thought it was a good value, and located really well for exploring old Istanbul: hagia sophya, blue mosque, grand bazarre. One caveat: it is right on the train tracks on the south side, where all the rooms face. Trains come by a lot. I'm a pretty heavy sleeper, but this might really bother a light sleeper.

AVOID - NEXT TO TRAIN TRACKS
This place is directly next to the train tracks, so unless a rumbling commuter train every 10 minutes helps you fall asleep, take my advice and avoid this place! If you really want to say here at least insist on being on the side of the building facing away from the tracks, though they will try to talk you out of this by saying the road is just as loud - (it's not). The night door man was using the room adjacent to mine as some kind of by-the-hour flophouse, I'd get back to my room and see shady looking couples hanging outside my door and waiting their turn - should I really give you any more details? The hall lights were often turned off so it was challenging to find your way back to your room, maybe to save on the electricty bills. They forgot my wake up call, which really annoyed me. This might be a good deal for $50 - $70 a night, as the location is otherwise good, the rooms are well furnished and the breakfast buffet was nice. However pay more than that and you're going to feel ripped off.

Hotel Review
We chose this hotel because it allowed us to walk wherever we wanted in old town Istanbul. The hotel did not disappoint us - it was perfectly located by the Blue Mosque. It is next to the train tracks, so ask for a room on the road side. Tell them you do not want a room next to the rail road tracks.

Shopping tip:
Short walk from hotel
Be prepared to bargin with the shop owners. They figure every American is loaded, so they inflate their prices accordingly. We speak some Italian, so when we were asked if we were Americans, we answered in Italian that we were from Itay (we do live in Italy). Thus, bargining was easier as Italians do not have the money Americans have. The shop owners are very, very aggressive. You must bargin aggressively in return for carpets, leather, knick-knacks, etc..

Tiny Convenient Location
Nice place, rooms are small. A train in right next to the hotel and makes it a bit loud. The breakfast is more of a continental breakfast with hot scrambled eggs.

A great hotel with touch of class
A fantastic hotel....from outside, it looks like an ancient hotel but once you step in..the is more of a business class hotel with nice furnishing and the staff were fantastic in term of customer services, friendliness and very helpful. The room is awesome with cool furnishing which we can enjoy finer things in life...very clean and well maintained. I loved the way the bed are covered in luxurious turkish embroided bed sheet...duvet sheet and pillow sheet. The wall paper is just beautiful... I was on business trip so did not spend a lot of time in thsi hotel except for breakfast time and the canteen is awesome with good range of breakfast dishes to choose from. Even though I worked in Taksim and I should have been put into hotel near there but I am super glad that I was put into this Almina hotel as the location is fantastic and it was only half an hour trip to Taksim.... The location is fantastic based in heart of Sultanahmet...a perfect start for tourists who wished to see Istanbul in details...a walking distance to almost all must see places....lots of fantastic restaurant nearby!! Overall this hotel provided more than enough for me considering I was on workpurpose trip and just there for a comfortable stay...importantly as a businessman I needed an internet access and the free WI FI provided is faultless.

A Pleasnt stay in Istanbul
The staff was kind and responsive to my needs. The hotel was clean and well operated. The view from the top deck was beatiful allowing me to see both the water and the city. The area was quite at night but a five minute walk form the trams and night life. I enjoyed my stay at the Almina.

unbeatable location for the price
The Almina Hotel was an excellent choice for us. It is a small hotel and the rooms are small but it is great value for a wonderful city.It suited our needs perfectly. We wanted to be able to walk to all the sites (an easy distance) and to use public transporation if needed. We used the tramway to travel to the Asian side of Istanbul (very easy to do). The staff was most accommodating and the included breakfast was excellent. After long days of sight seeing (we were there seven nights) we were welcomed in with tea and coffee in the evening. We would definitely recommend this hotel and we would stay there on another visit to Istanbul
