Charming boutique hotel gets guests cooking

This small hotel is a good base from which to explore one of Istanbul's most historic areas. The Sarnic is just minutes away from the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and the Grand Bazaar. The Mosaic Museum and the Basilica Cistern are also within walking distance of the hotel. The Sarnic's building, a mansion constructed in 1915, was transformed into a hotel in 1999. A complete renovation in January 2010 updated floors, curtains, televisions, showers, mattresses, and beds.

Highlights

  • Housed in a mansion built in 1915
  • Turkish cooking class offered in the hotel kitchen
  • Floors, furniture, and other details renovated in January 2010
  • Complimentary Wi-Fi and Turkish Delight

Rooms

The former mansion's 21 rooms are decorated with traditional patterns and furniture. Amenities include televisions with international channels, en-suite bathrooms, and air conditioning. Guests, weary from a day of touring or business, enjoy a complimentary treat of Turkish Delight.

Features

Guests interested in learning to cook Turkish food should reserve a spot in the hotel's cooking class. Classes -- taught in the hotel kitchen -- are limited to 10 students. Students cook a five-course meal together then enjoy the food from the comfort of the hotel's rooftop restaurant. Guests who want to try their new cooking skills at home can buy some of the ingredients at the nearby spice market.

The restaurant also serves dinner each night. The menu focuses on Ottoman and classic Turkish cuisine. Guests can sit inside or enjoy food, drinks, and a water pipe on the terrace.

The Sarnic is named for a fifth-century Byzantine cistern that sits just behind the hotel.

Fabulous staff and terrific location

My husband and I spent 9 nights at the Sarnic and had a wonderful time. The staff is very helpful-especially [...] the hotel manager. Almost everyone speaks English. Location is terrific-close to the Blue Mosque, Aya Sophia and the tram. The complimentay breakfast is typically Turkish (that's a good thing!) and positively huge! If you have time, I would recommend you take the 5 course cooking class the hotel offers. We had a blast, learned some great receipes and enjoyed eating our efforts with new friends. We had one bad experience and it really wasn't the hotel's fault. They use different tour companies for various day trips-be cautious if the company is True Blue-without going into details, just know they were expensive and didn't deliver. Oh, yes there's a terrific little rooftop dining area-perfect for watching the sunset over the water.

Good decent place to stay in!

Sarnic is a good hotel to stay at. The staff was friendly and the hotel was nice and clean. My 2 biggest issues were: 1- There was no elevator inside considering it's a 4 storey hotel. Anyone one with any type of mobility issues won't be able to stay here 2- I was umpleasantly surprised to find out that they charge for local phone calls within the city because this is not normal practice for most hotels and I didn't find any literature upon check-in indicating this

Vilkas kaupunki

Hyvällä paikalla lähellä tärkeimpiä nähtävyyksiä. Sinisen moskeijan aamukutsut klo 5.00 hieman häiritsivät yöunta. Huoneiden äänieristykset melko huonot. Huoneitten koot vaihtelevat. Hotelli koostuu kahdesta osasta ns.uudemmasta, jonka katolla terassi ja vanhemmasta. Henkilökunta ystävällistä ja kohtekiasta; palvelualttius kohdallaan. Aamiainen riittävä ja monipuolinen. Hotellin ravintolassa maukasta ruokaa suht.edullisesti.

Hotel ok, location good, not room 204 & 304 !

Positive: good location, price ok, nice street, nice rooms, renovated, airport-shuttle (not free if the booking was not made directly on the hotels website), very friendly man who is on charge of the breakfast-room, men at the front-desk not always very winning (sort of an general nature of all men in Istanbul-gastronomy oder -hotellery, but always helpful. Negativ: Room 204 and 304 are very bad (very small window in a light-shaft without any sky-view!), other rooms are good, breakfast is ok, breakfast-room too small at rush-hours, praying of the Blue Mosque very loud on 5.30h in the morning.., some generators and air-condition-machines are running during the night from time to time in the courtyard which can stop your sleeping,
