Take in panoramic views of the Arabian Gulf waters and explore an Island with hilltops, created between five and ten million years ago. Explore the diverse wildlife inhabiting one of the world's most unique offshore wildlife sanctuaries. Revel in the history of an Island retreat, long known for its natural and rugged beauty. Set on the verdant island haven of Sir Bani Yas, just off the coast of Abu Dhabi, Desert Islands Resort & Spa by Anantara offers intrepid travelers an unforgettable island escape in the glittering waters of the Arabian Gulf. Sir Bani Yas Island is a showcase for nature-based tourism and animal welfare in Arabia. A wildlife reserve, the Island is home to thousands of animals and birds, many of them endangered. It's an ideal destination to experience nature and wildlife, the adventurous way. The Island is located just 8 kilometres off the shore of Abu Dhabi and is home to one of Abu Dhabi's largest wildlife reserve. With a total area of 87 kilometers, the reserve was established in 1971 by the late ruler & founder of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan and following decades of conservation work and ecological investment the Island is now a haven to thousands of large free roaming animals, a bird sanctuary and several million trees and plants. The Island also has a wide range of nature driven activities, including game drives, kayaking, mountain biking, hiking, snorkeling and archery.
