tired & in need of an upgrade

The car park was full when we arrived because of parties in the hotel. The room was tired looking and cold although a fan heater was supplied. No room for breakfast the first morning vso ate in the bar. The bar had run out of gin in late afternoon. Very conveniently situated so perfect for walking around town but the rooms are in need of a refurbishment.

What could be shabby chic is plain

What could be shabby chic is plain shabby with huge holes in the arms of the chairs in the bedroom. Lacklustre welcome. Asked to be moved to back of hotel so was put on 4th floor - despite hotel being half empty - and lift was out of order the whole time we were there. No offer to help with luggage. Room cold, as was the chilly atmosphere in the public areas. Ordered breakfast in room but only got half of order and soggy toast. Phoned and complained - more browned bread resulting in soggy toast. No skimmed milk, no bananas and idea of fruit tea is green tea with jasmine or white tea with grapefruit! Receptionist on check out actually smiled! Only redeeming factor for this place is Ewan, who appears to be doing every job possible, running bar, making afternoon teas, clearing up and running reception.

Rooms clean but a little shabby

Rooms clean but a little shabby at the edges. Great for the races and close to the middle of town. given the races were on checking in after 2.00 when the races start at 2 showed little regard for customers and when asked reception showed no inclination whatsoever to help. Didn't use the restaurant or breakfast but had a lovely breakfast a couple of doors down at a lovely cafe for half the price!
