Located in the centre of Birmingham, overlooking Centenary Square, the hotel is superbly located close to a wide range of shops, leisure attractions and the Central Business District of the United Kingdom's second city. This Birmingham hotel boasts 211 well-appointed bedrooms and suites, 13 meeting rooms as well as a restaurant and bar. New for 2010, the year of the Tiger, is Bugis Street Brasserie, an authentic Oriental brasserie featuring traditional Singaporean, Malay and Chinese cuisine. Named after the famed area in Singapore which has recently been transformed boasting boutiques, market stalls and open air bars and restaurants. The brasserie opened at the Copthorne Birmingham Hotel in March, following on from the success of the Bugis Street brasseries at the Millennium Gloucester road hotel and Copthorne Tara hotel both in Kensington London. Bugis Streets kitchen is led by chef Chee Kean Chan, who has been exercising his profession for over 10 years. He has worked in several hotel restaurants and resorts in Singapore, Thailand and Malaysia and his team have been carefully selected to ensure that the authenticity of the brasserie remains true. House specialities include: Hainanese Chicken, Nasi Goreng & Singapore Laksa.

Average

Clean, comfortable, good room size and tidy though the room was in need of a little updating. Has all the hotel facilities you would expect of a large city centre hotel. Lack of sockets in the room is a problem if phone charging is wanting to be done at the same time as boiling the kettle. Housekeeping were nearly impossible to get hold of - I had to speak to reception to get extra coffee and a replacement to the broken kettle in my room. I would stay there again - but just don't expect all the standards to be too high.

The hotel staff, facilities and location were all very good...the only disappointment we had was there was no air conditioning which meant we had to open the windows. .and being in the middle of a city it was quite noisy! But overall we had an enjoyable stay and would use this hotel again

Great option close to the ICC

I was attending a conference at the ICC and found the Copthorne a great value. I opted for a superior room that came with breakfast and free internet. Very comfortable room, lovely staff, and clean, updated hotel. My room was a bit noisy with the traffic noise, but with the windows closed not too bad. One caution: no air conditioning, so would avoid in the summer.

Location, location, location....

We stayed here for 5 nights to attend our friends' wedding in a nearby town. We chose it for it's location in the heart of everything in the city centre of Birmingham. The price was a good value for an older but very clean hotel. The room was a good size and the beds & bedding were comfortable. Some other reviewers have felt it to be run down, but that seems a harsh description. I did not feel that to be accurate. It was quiet because the road doesn't run right next to the hotel. The food at the Asian restaurant in the hotel was very good. We ate there twice even though there are lots of restaurants in Brindley Place about a 10 minute walk away. On the street running parallel to Brindley there are several inexpensive pubs serving the Wetherspoon food franchise fare at very inexpensive prices. We dined at 2 of those and enjoyed the food and beer. Being there during the Christmas Market season was a wonderful bonus. The market was literally right outside the door of the hotel. The Symphony Hall & Biirmingham Reperatory Theatre were a 1/2 block away. New Street and Moor Street rail stations were a 15 minute walk, as were several shopping centres such as the Bull Ring. One improvement I would recommend is for the front office manager: Your attitude is evident to your guests. You cannot turn it on/off and think they won't notice. Your employees were wonderfully friendly in spite of your example. Being 90% sour and 10% friendly almost ruined my stay at the Copthorne. That was especially so when I was trapped in your malfunctioning elevator watching my watch for 50 minutes. You told my husband that I was exaggerating about the amount of time I was stuck there and you never apologized to me for my inconvenience.

Entertainment tip: Short walk from hotel

I reserved one of the couches at the Electric Theatre (about a 10 minute walk from the Copthorne) to watch the latest Harry Potter movie. Couch renters may text their snack and drink orders (they have a full bar) to the staff, who will deliver their orders right to the couches. There is also regular seating at 1/2 the price. It was a fun experience.
