Burlington - fantastic stay!

This hotel was nice to stay at. Really central, really easy to get from Birmingham Moor Street and New Street stations and also very near to the Bullring and the Mailbox! Perfect for what I went to Birmingham for!!! The staff were really friendly and helpful and gave me loads of info on the local area. The only bad bit for me was the coughing man in the room next door in the middle of the night, the walls are obviously paper thin. Other than that a big thumbs up.

Lovely hotel if you get the right

Lovely hotel if you get the right room. We sadly were put at the back of the hotel. The room was beautiful, very clean and welcoming. but at the back of the hotel is the bus station and the hotel does not have double glazing. I stayed on a Friday night and thanks to all of the noise outside, I got around 2 hours of sleep. Lovely hotel, friendly staff but if you get a room at the rear of the hotel, don't expect any sleep

Lovely old-fashioned hotel with

Lovely old-fashioned hotel with great facilities. Rooms are very comfortable and the staff are very friendly. The price (£57 for a week night) was very reasonable for the standard of the room. I didn't try the breakfast though, so I can't comment on the catering.

poor display

On attending the hotel we were happy with the location especially as we were there for a new years break and to shop at the good stores within the centre. The hotel itself is right within a short walk of the bull ring shopping mall and the mailbox / Broad street for nightly entertainment. That is one of two positives, the other being the staff at the venue who were happy and polite at all times. However there were a few negatives. Some of which being, the hotel cleaning standards leave much to be desired. The hallways were covered in dust with the carpets having to be taped down in certain areas. A dream venue for accident insurance firms. The room itself was a good size but again it was worn and reminded me of a Wetherspoons pub area with the faded stained carpets and furniture. The couch in the room was covered in stains and would be better off disposed of. It is a shame as the hotel is old and could be that much better with a touch up here and there. The room istelf had food stains on the carpet and on entering the bathroom, had cup rings on the side of the bath. These were visible on entering the room. The shower was on it's last legs with the frame coming away. The venue does offer a discounted rate off the NCP next door, but again for three days this still cost 23 pounds. That could have been put towards another 4/5 star hotel that does offer parking. I would give this a strong 3/4 out of ten, for the location and staff alone. Until I see the hotel has had an extensive make over for the prices charged, I would strongly advise not to stay there unless you have been given a great deal. Steve from Surrey.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

You are a 5 minute walk to the mailbox complex that has a number of bars, shops and food venues of all tastes. There are cocktail bars that are good value and quite chique.

A very old building, and therefore

A very old building, and therefore architecture too complex. To get to our room from the floor level, we had to take an elevator, walk into the reception area, use another elevator, walk across a long corridor, go up the stairs for half a floor (no accessible option), and then walk a little more till the room. Our room was very specious, more than the most according to the fire escape plan. The bathroom was with the fixed shower - maybe customary in England but very uncomfortable for me. The location is great if you arrive by train - right near the train station, with easy foot access to two malls and the central city square - but if you plan to use a car, pick another place - the parking is far and expensive, and driving in and out is a huge pain (of course not being used to left-hand drive doesn't help).
