More OAP than VIP

Stayed June 2009 and felt more like Old Age Home than hotel. Apart from carers was only guest under 70. Badly in need of redecoration and renovation. Signs of water damage on corridor walls and on old Butlin's photo's. Check-in was too rushed for my liking (had to get meal times from another guest). Was very pleased with room however, well furnished and clean. Bathroom was modern and spotless. Was less pleased with stains (possibly urine) on corridor carpet. First night in dining room was greeted by whom I assumed to be the Head Waitress/Server not with "Can I help you?, Hello! or Can I See Your Room Card?" but with "AND WHERE DO YOU THINK YOU'RE GOING?!". Based on all my experiences on that first day I can guarantee I will not be going back again

staff could have been more friendly and polite when requesting information, however lady that cleaned rooms was friendly. It is a very large and busy hotel and therefore can be a little confusing with no signs on doors to say private function only, also no price lists on dining room door to say how much dinner costs, you have to book the day before if wish to dine in the evenings ,not enough information relating to entertainment for the evening

Good: Fantastic breakfast (best I've experienced in a hotel)...Large Bed...Fantastic Sea View...Clean room...Efficient reception staff...Good gym & pool. Bad: Hotel bar is a rip-off (£8 for a glass of wine!) & bar service not too hot either...Bathrooms could do with a spruce up...Resent paying £2.50 a night for the car park (It'd be no problem for the Hilton to include it in the booking). Would definitely stay again just wouldn't frequent the hotel bar!

Run away as fast as you can

  • Disappointed
  • 11 Jul 2011
For starters, our room was nothing close to what is represented on their website. The door to the room could not even open all the way because it hit the bed - - the room was that small. We soon noticed that the sink was backing up into the shower causing a smell that can only be described as "putrid." The night manager tried to "plunge" it for nearly half an hour (by now it was well past midnight) and then announced that he had no other rooms but we could use the bathroom down the hall. His solution was to spray the room with air freshener. No compensation was offered other than a breakfast that was as bad as the room. At these prices the least they could have done was to refund some of the room cost. Stay away!!!!!

In general everything about the hotel was good but it was let down really badly by the size and facilities in the room. All very clean and tidy and the staff were really friendly, food was good but the room!!!!!! Far too small and too hot. No curtains at the en-suite window which looked right into flats over the road. Cold water tap had to be run for 5 minuts to get rid of the hot water before you could brush your teeth. Space for clothes mean you don't want to book for more than 2 nights as there isn't anywhere to put them. The room would have been a good single at best this is a tidy 2 star sorry Best Western

Britains Worst Hotel?

  • Tramdriver
  • 1 Jun 2010
Unable to hear receptionist on arrivel due to volumn of 'in house' bar entertainment. Damp on the wall and skirtingboard in bedroom. TV remote not working. Huge Hotel with only 1 lift for 4 people. Broken on last day of stay. OAP's in wheelchairs had to be carried down the stairs. No hot water in tap in room on last day of stay - shower not working either. Toilet in room leaking onto bathroom floor. A real health hazard. Breakfast tables piled with dirty cutlary and plates. Clean your own table before you can sit! Breakfast Buffet not kept hot by ancient self service stand. Basil Faulty could learn a few things from this hotel. One to avoid. Great shame as location superb and building has real character. Rather like an ocean liner where the owners are trying to squeeze out that last trip. In this case the ship would be called Titanic. Perfectly represents all that is wrong with the perception of many of a holiday in Blackpool. Has to be seen to be believed.

On arrival reception shabby. Stairs going up to the bedrooms very dirty. Carpet needed a clean also very dirty. No towels in the bedroom when a towel found in the cupboard underwear fell out of it. No mirror in the bedroom to dry hair or put make up on. Asked to be moved to another room with a shower. This was done. Breakfast ok although a little greasy. We would not stay there again. Totally dissapointed with the stay, glad it was only one night had it been more we would of left and found somewhere else.

Nice clean hotel with friendly staff. Easy free parking. It is right at the south end of the promenade so it's a long but nice walk to the main drag. Decent cabaret with good prices in the bar. The only minus would be the breakfast which was a bit of a scrum & would benefit from 2 sittings so it gives the staff time to replenish the food.

Hotel was in a good location on the sea front, a few mins walk from the tower. Plenty of parking. Reception area very nice. Room was average size with a modern clean bathroom. Kettle with tea & coffee provided. Celling in need of some repair (damp patches and wallpaper hanging off) All staff were very helpful and friendly. I used my priority points to pay for most of the room rate, probably wouldn't have paid the full £95 if I didn't have these points. I enjoyed my stay at the Imperial.

Excellent hotel in great location. A bit dated in parts but it is about 130 years old and the current owners, Barcelo, have plans for refurbishment as advertised in the hotel reception. Service was as you would expect from a top hotel.
