We really enjoyed our stay, but the parking was an absolute nightmare and not very convenient. It would have been good to have been advised about this in advance.

Mercure Bristol, UK

The hotel was inexpensive online but they get you in overly expensive extras including $10 for two hours of internet, or in my case charge me $60 for 7 days of internet then don't provide the service and just refer me back to the $10 option. The bar and restaurant were also very expensive. The shower and toilet were nice but lacked a wash cloth. The beds had no light sheets, only a single heavy blanket. The beds were also rock hard and the pillows went flat as soon as I laid my head on them. The room lacked any sort of clock or alarm. The best aspect of the room was the heavy curtains which made the room nearly pitch black despite lights from the parking lot shining all night. The pool was supposed to be warm but was in fact freezing cold and small. The "exercise facility" was just a bunch of elliptical machines and bikes with a few assorted dumbbells (nothing more than 30lbs) and a single treadmill. The room key was also not usable to enter the gym or pool. I had to sign a waiver in order to get a special key. The location was decent though you have to walk past one shady alleyway where dockside bums occasionally begged for change. Its a 10 minute walk to the center of town and a ten minute walk to the main rail and bus station. There are no amazing restaurants next to the hotel but there are plenty of good ones a short ways away. I would suggest "The Hole in the Wall" restaurant and bar to anyone staying there. Other major attractions such as the mall, zoo, and suspension bridge are a good 30 minute walk or more from the hotel but $3 buses make constant trips. All in all, the hotel is in a decent location. The bottom line is; Don't book this hotel unless you are the kind of person who enjoys things more because they are more expensive. I have stayed at numerous hotels and had I known what I know now, I would have gone to a much cheaper hotel and probably had a better room.

Sightseeing tip: Long walk from hotel

The Bristol Zoo is about 30 minutes by foot northwest of the Hotel but is easily accessible by bus. It has many interactive attractions and is good for young and old alike. I would strongly suggest it to anyone visiting Bristol for any reason.
