Mercure Cardiff Centre Hotel

Very basic with no amenities: no kleenex, no shower cap, teensy bars of soap, no pool or exercise room. Front desk people were rude; could not exchange currency and had no power adapters for electrical circuitry. One night we heard the fire alarm from 3:00-5:00 A.M. Rooms and lounge area were clean. Did not eat breakfast there because we found other places much less expensive. Hotel is not in the center of Cardiff, but it is walkable. There are no sidewalks for quite a way, but still can be safely done. Not bad, but wouldn't stay there again.

"Mercure The Lodge Cardiff" is what the heading reads now that I am writing this review, but when I booked the trip it read "Mercure Cardiff City Centre". This hotel is far from being in the city center and is far from what I consider a "luxury hotel". It was clean and the staff were polite, But it was hard to get to sleep with train tracks right outside our window and trains running quite frequently through out the night. Also, you should know that when they say that the breakfast is included, they mean: for an extra charge....and it might be eggs and ham, or just bread and juice -depending on the day. The atmosphere of the hotel is around a 3 star in my opinion. Most of all I felt tricked with the location. We wanted to be in the middle of the city and we were in the warehouse district - about a 10min walk from the outside of town.

Budget hotel, good standard of room and room facilities much better than expected at the price. lack of restaurant was slightly inconvenient, but we knew about that when we booked. Difficult to find but otherwise very satisfied.

Hotel is good accesibilty but an odd walk away from town centre. Good cheap and secure onsite parking.good sized room.nice posh lookin bath.didnt expect on the price i got. Short distance from cardiff bay which was great.

no food we only wanted sandwiches could not supply us with any could not have food at all in the night we went to the sister hotel we walked there were told only 15 min walk what a laugh the other end of town took us 1 hour to get there we used the health club there that was nice but in our hotel there was nothing to do at all

Hotel is Basic in many respects but in line with the current pricing policy. Reception staff were very helpful. Main problem is the location of the Hotel is not easily seen from the road unless you know where to look. Suggest a far larger sign on the front and side of the Hotel facing the bridge.

This is our second visit to this hotel and in our opinion the standard has dropped. There were three adults sharing a family room and only enough towels and cups for two people. Breakfast is served between 7-10 am and is a bit hit and miss. We were booked in for three nights and went for breakfast at around 9.30 am. On the first morning the scrambled egg was dried up; the second morning was ok and on the third morning there was no fruit salad left. On a positive note I must mention Alan, one of the duty managers, he was extremely helpful, friendly and informative and was willing to go the extra mile to ensure guests had a pleasant stay.

Initial service at check in was particulary good.

It was difficult to find initially as we followed directions given by staff in Best Western in the city. Hotel was clean and comfortable, bar offered small meals but many were not available so takeout was the only option as we were exhausted and didn't want to go out for dinner. Staff were exceptional and assisted with meals, bookings for the next day and we really appreciated their help very much.
