- Standard Double room offers 1 double bed. The double guest rooms are a mixture of American Oak and modern pine furnishings some retaining the quaint decor of the hotel others are decorated in warm contemporary colors. Not shabby chic
Excellent location for exploring the Cotswolds and Cheltenham. The latter has a number of very good trendy and classic places to eat and if you around the back of the area there are good pubs (try the Royal Charlton Kings), much better than the Two-for-One in front of the hotel (why didn’t they just name the chain BOGOF?) The hotel staff were very friendly - the hotel looks impressive from the outside BUT the hotel was not up to standard: the sink only had cold water; the bath took an age to fill; the TV in the room didn’t work – not that we wanted a TV, but the radio would have been nice; we asked for the latter to be fixed, nothing happened (room 355 if your interested Barcelo). The entrance hall is impressive as it should be but the bar has been done out in that trendy Seventies Stripes and Swirls in clashing colours – good for trendy bars or such but not in keeping with a Regency style room. It might have worked when first in place but Shabby Regency works, Shabby Seventies just looks dated. Some of the rooms are a long way from the Entrance/gym/pool/restaurant -if you’re disabled or can’t walk to far ask a couple of days early for a convenient room. But the Cotswolds are lovely – go for a walk across Cleeve Hill if you can.
