The Waterloo Hotel was built in 1819. The hotel was the first purpose-built, large-scale hotel in Edinburgh. Now called the Apex Waterloo Place Hotel it combines the traditional features of this historic building with contemporary style. The Apex Waterloo boasts 187 stylish bedrooms, Elliot’s bar and restaurant, five function rooms, and Yu Spa facilities including pool, sauna, steam room, and a fully equipped gym. - The Waterloo Place Hotel is ideally located at the east end of Edinburgh's Princes Street, just moments from Waverley Station and a short walk to the Royal Mile and Edinburgh Castle. There are five stylish rooms in the conference centre with capacities from 10 to 150, and they all come with an impressive range of facilities; TV and video, projector, flipchart, fax and phone, wi-fi internet access, ice-cold drinks fridge, complimentary fresh fruit platter and snacks. The Waterloo Suite is the largest of the meeting rooms, holding up to 150 delegates. It's perfect for theatre-style presentations, announcements and press conferences, receptions and private meals and banquets. The four smaller rooms; Forth, Calton, Regent and Waverley have capacities of up to 60, and offer a choice of flexible layouts from boardroom to cabaret.

Great Hotel in Great Area
This is a great hotel in a very convenient part of Edinburgh. Minutes to a good shopping mall and the great shopping streets of Edinburgh. The rooms are modern and very clean. The only downside there is no parking on the hotel premises. You have to do about a 7 minute walk to a nearby parking lot.

Apex Waterloo rocks
My second time at the Apex Waterloo was even better then the first time. Friendly reception staff, nice clean well decorated rooms with great bathrooms, very good breakfast and very nice sauna and exercise rooms. Location is perfect - in new town but a very short from the old town. Very near Waverley Bridge where the express bus (100) from the airport stops. Very near Calton park which is nice to visit. All around a good hotel at a fair price.

Short stay in Edinburgh
We stayed 3 nights at the Apex Waterloo while visiting friends in Edinburgh. The location is great just off Princes street, next to the train station and a few blocks from the Royal Mile. The room was larger than most in Europe and very comfortable. The restaurant and bar were nice with friendly staff. Would stay here again if we ever return to Edinburgh.

Close to everything
This hotel is close to everything and is easy walking distance to the Royal Mile. Room was nice, but not outstanding. Food at the in house restaurant was not good and definitely overpriced.

Wonderful honeymoon
Lovely hotel and not too pricey. Right in the city centre, not far from main train station and bus stop to go to airport. Walking distance to Edinburgh castle, royal mile, arthur's seat etc. Staff really friendly. Hotel has swimming pool, steam room and sauna. Would be better if it had a jacuzzi, but minor factor. Really enjoyed our stay.

Great place
Loved the bathtub. Extremely conveniently placed to Edinburgh Waterloo train station, and the staff are exceptionally helpful. Very mod in design.

Location is Everything
A very good hotel in a great Edinburgh location. Better if you are going there by train. The garaging facitilies are not convenient and are expensive. We were not impressed with the hotel's dining room for dinner. The menu is limited and a bit strange, the portions are small, and prices are very high. There are other nearby restaurants that we liked better.
