a little blow par
there was a mistake as we were put in a single room the first night, but changed easliy enough. However the cleanibg was a little superficial, dust behind the loo, and all over the window. Breakfast was not included and the voucher system was faulty, they tried to charge for meals we had not had. A better deal for breakfast is Filling station in rose street jus round the corner, half the price and better quality. otherwise , a little more care would give better value, but the location is easy for all parts of the city

The Roxburghe Hotel
Hotel itself was very nice, the room I stayed in however, was extremely small and hard to move around in. Practically had to climb over the bed to get from one side of the room to the other. For the money, I felt it was overpriced considering the uncomfortably small size of the single suite.

Sightseeing tip:
Short walk from hotel
Catch the green Edinburgh tour bus across Charlotte Square in front of the Scotland Registry building rather than on Waverly Bridge. It's the third stop on the tour and a very short walk from a the hotel.

Fantastic location at this spa hotel
Warm welcome, excellent breakfast - wish we'd taken this every day. Really helpful concierge. Loved the recently refurbished decor in communal areas. Great outside seating area if weather had permitted use. Good spa facilities. We enjoyed massages whilst on this mother/daugher city break made even more exciting by supply of scottish shortbread to room every day. Twin room was a bit tight with drawer space/desk chair in way. Tip to request room that isn't situated above wedding reception. Great central location.

Do go to see the Royal Yacht Britannia. Such an interesting attraction, made even more special as we enjoyed afternoon tea in the Royal deck tea room. They even have their own fudge shop on board.

Ticks all the boxes
Marvellous stay at The Roxburgh. Room available two hours early, good size, massive bed. Staff chatty, welcoming and helpful. Good numbers of attentive staff in the dining room at breakfast, which was excellently presented and made to order. The hotel fronts onto Charlotte Square but Rose Street is at the side with all the bars and restaurants you could need. Princes Street and George Street are on either side with the full array of shops you'd expect in a major city. Highly recommended!

If you like "surf and turf", eat at the "Wildfire" just around the corner on Rose Street. Book first - very small and intimate, first class food.

Great base to explore the city
My girlfriend an I booked this hotel rather quickly and did not spend much time researching before. It turned out to be a great pick. Located at Charlotte Square, one of the more beautiful squares in the city, several bus stops (including the AirLink to the airport) stop within minutes of the hotel. Rose and George street are two main streets in the new part of town. While not the most central location for the Castle or Royal Mile, many things are in walking distance and buses seem to run every few minutes. Hotel staff was very knowledgeable and friendly and provided us with good information about the city and several day-tours. One minor point of criticism is that there was some confusion about whether or not breakfast was included in the rate, although the hotel did resolve the issue swiftly and in our interest. Breakfast was good, although several nearby restaurants offer better value. We did not use the restaurant/bar for other meals. While the hallways seem a bit dated, the room was actually very spacious, clean, and nice. While we didn't have much of a view, there was never any reason to expect one based on location anyway. We did not use the spa/gym facilities. Lastly, it would be nice to have free WiFi also in rooms and not just the lobby area, but again, not a major inconvenience. Overall, this is a great place to stay based on location and service. While I wouldn't necessarily recommend it for families (at least I did not see much along the lines of child entertainment) , it should be fine for most couples and business travelers.

Browns right around the corner (George St.). Good breakfast and seemed to be popular for dinner as well (although we didn't try it for that).

Good value, excellent staff
This hotel's location enabled a short walk to get the hop-on, hop-off bus and is within walking distance of many of Edinburgh's sights. The staff is quite helpful.

Good value for the location.
Nice location. Clean. Helpful staff. Skimpy on the toiletries. Variable water temperature in shower - sometimes scalding. Thin pillows but big fluffy towels. No free internet. Good price for the location and one of a very few hotels that I could book a twin room (for sure 2 twin beds) on line. I would stay there again but would bring a bar of soap.

OK for cheap deal but not 4*
We got this hotel cheap through a travel site with my flight to Edinburgh. It was in a great location, the bed was comfy, there was no unwanted noise, it was clean. But I was looking forward to staying in a posh hotel, and it didn't feel like that. I guess this is fair enough since we had a deal. Maybe they sell off the older rooms at a discount rate through sites like the one I used. If I had paid full whack I'd have been really disappointed. The shower intermittently scalded and froze us so the hotel moved us to another room of the same standard. Our kettle didn't work and reception arranged for it to be replaced. Our room had no minibar, no pay-per-view films, no bottled water (although we did see this on the maid's trolly, so perhaps guests paying full price do get this), and was a bit tired looking - particularly the bathroom, which since we were in a disabled room (not requested) had the sink at a very low level. Also you had to pay extra for wi-fi at pretty extortionate rates. I would say this should be free to use in a 4* hotel. The shower in the second room was no great shakes either. Also the lift kept breaking down and we were on the fourth floor. Despite all this, it was in a handy location at a good price. Fair's fair.

A Room in the Town. Great unpretentious Scottish bistro on Howe St nearby. We went for a very reasonably priced set lunch. Lovely food, friendly service and relaxed atmosphere. Also a nice coffee shop over the road from this restaurant. We didn't eat but menu looked great and coffee was the best I've had in ages.
