The staff were polite and helpful, and the room was clean. It's right off the Royal Mile which is one of the more popular and exciting areas of Edinburgh.

Hotel punches above it's weight
From when we arrived & received a warm welcome, to when we left, 3 nights later, we could not fault this hotel for the class it is in. The staff are incredibly helpful, & the hotel is immaculate and looks new, even though it is 5 years old. The rooms have everything we needed & we especially liked the soap/shower gel. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was a really good size and well fitted out. Also the sound proofing must be pretty good as the room was so quiet. The breakfast was adequate, but maybe could have had slightly more choice, but considering what we paid it was good. I would definitely stay there again and it was only a couple of minutes from the Royal Mile.

fantastic fun in edinburgh
Check-in was very smooth and efficient. The hotel while being closer to Holyrood is still very centrally located. We could see Salisbury Crag from our window. The palace and the Royal Mile only a few minutes stroll from the hotel. The hotel staff were extremely personable helpful and knowledgeable. Rooms were very clean and the included buffet breakfast hearty enough to get you through until dinner. Our stay was a very positive experience. Only one sour note plenty of bath towels but no wash cloths. That aside our stay was delightful!

Time-saving tip:
Long walk from hotel
Taxi to Waverly Station is easier than walking and is not expensive. Walking back is a cinch (it's all downhill)

Holiday Inn Express
This hotel filled its role perfectly. Location was excellent. Included breakfast was great. Staff was helpful and stored our bags after check out until we left on a late flight. While the bed was not that comfortable and the room seemed to not be vacuumed when we checked in, everything else was great. Exactly what you should get for the money and this type of hotel.

Great for visiting Royal Mile
This Holiday Inn Express is perfectly located for visiting old town and the Royal Mile, Edinburgh Castle and everything else within walking distance. It was very secure, quite, had room air conditioning and I found the bed very comfortable. The mattress was firm and not the overly soft pillow top mattresses found in the U.S. the breakfast in the morning was fine. I would stay here again and liked it better than the other HI Express in newtown. That one was okay, but this one was better.

Dining tip:
Short walk from hotel
Visit the Jolly Judge pub just off the Royal Mile. It is a small, very traditional pub with a cozy atmosphere, good beer and fine pub-style lunch. It did not feel touristy at all.

Reliable option
The HI Express chain is consistent. In Edinburgh the hotel was a bit expensive but breakfast is included. Wifi was also included but it was so slow as to be worthless

Bring your walking shoes, there is so much to see in Edinburgh. A hike to the top of Arthur's Seat is a must for the best views of the city

Good location
Only problem we had was with the meaning of a standard room. A standard room in this hotel means two twin beds not a single double bed.

When you need to eat, the pubs on the Royal Mile are the best value and serve very good food.
