not what expected

Taxi could not find, we wandered around block finding access through narrow alley-no name on building. Had to carry luggage up 3 flights of stairs, no air circulation in room, bathroom floor wet (shower sprays all over no tub to catch water) Overall observation is hotel used to be (or is) college hostel living quarters.

Good value!

The Kenneth MacKenzie offered very nice accomodations--clean, attractive, and comfortable. The bathroom was very small but it worked fine for the two of us. The breakfast was excellent and served in pleasant surroundings. The location was also excellent--a block off Nicolson St., 5-6 blocks from the Royal Mile, and very near Arthur's Seat. We were very happy that we chose to stay at the Kenneth MacKenzie!

Perfect stay for a few nights

The room was clean and had all the basics you need to stay a night. I was delighted to find out that it had a WiFi as well. I really liked that I arrived late and I was still well welcomed. The staff in general was very friendly and helpful. Nice breakfast with fresh strawberries and fruits provided though no baked beans with cooked breakfast... I appreciated the possibility to leave my luggage in a locked luggage room on my day of departure. Very good value for the price you pay!

An Exceptional Breakfast

My breakfast experience here was the best I've had in 5 weeks of traveling throughout eastern and western Europe. The quality of service (thank you Emelyse!) and food was tops. The variety of hot and cold items was very large, and the abundance of delicious fruit had me and my 3 young adult children commenting. The reception staff was always very friendly and responsive. Can't say too much about the rooms, but they were clean. The bed was good quality and great for a good night's sleep. I felt these things all together made this a ver good value.

Excellent value and location

Only stayed one night for Edinburgh Marathon, but would have been happy to stay longer. Good student accomodation ideally situated very close to Royal Mile and helpful, friendly staff with good breakfast options.

edinburgh weekend

very clean, bed comfortable, tiolet clean but shower was very claustrophobic. The dinning room was comfortable and the service was good with a good choice of food. Staff very friendly and helpful. the hotel itself is in a good location for the centre of edinburgh, only down side is there is no lift but would still stay there again.

How do you like living in a dorm?

The hotel itself is in a reasonable location, quite near downtown less than 10 minutes to High St, and 10-15 minutes to the palace at Holyrod and the approach to arthurs seat. It is clean and affordable, and the rate includes breakfast which has a good mix of vegetarian options. However, don't think these are hotel rooms. These are converted dorm rooms, and have very minimal shower facilities, and at least in our room, the bed did not face the tv. Probably single occupancy rooms don't have this problem. The location was good for us 10-15 minute walk from train station, maybe a little further to the castle. But, the room was utterly lacking in character, and using the shower made the whole bathroom sopping wet and gross.
