Worth it!
Great Location (between new town & arthur seat, & only about a block & a half from old town)!!! Room was clean & pretty decent size (I have stayed in much smaller rooms all over Europe). Bathroom was average size for Europe standards. Safe, blow dryer, iron & ironing board located in room. I was shocked to see the elevators could fit more than one person & a bag. Room Service food was less than average but at least edible especially at 1am. Breakfast at the hotel restaurant was less than average. Convenient entrance to mall on the 3rd floor. Overall pretty good for price.

Probably Wouldn't Stay There Again
The location was very good but I didn't find the staff very friendly or helpful. The concierge didn't know where any of the restaurants were located. The shower dripped loudly and wouldn't turn off. There was no alarm clock, not enough towels or pillows.

Short walk from hotel
Hotel was a short walk to most of the main attractions in Edinburgh. Close to Waverley train station, Princess Street, the Castle etc.

Staff not giving clear directions, so got lost trying to find the Royal Mile. No A/C in the rooms and they replaced the fan on our last day but the temperature wasn't too bad. The front desk staff were really not that helpful. We asked for suggestions to eat and they told us the hotel restaurant (???)

Short walk from hotel
Edinburgh Castle is a short walk - but the lines are long so get there early. A tour may also save money because they combine tickets to the 2 castles (Holyrood) and different sites. Eating places close at 10pm in that area. Edinburgh festival starts in August and tea on the Royal Brittania is a nice experience and a short bus ride.

Excellent and clean hotel in a
Excellent and clean hotel in a prime location!! The only one issue was the fact it says on their website "City centre locations often cause difficulties parking but The King James offers private on site car parking for 20 cars." - they fail to say this will cost you £15!!
