short stay

We booked the hotel for a one night stay. Welcoming staff who though we arrived early were happy to look after our bags whilst the room was ready. Comfortable room followed by an excellent breakfast which set us up for the day. Again on departure the hotel looked after our bags until our train which was not due until later in the day. was an internal room with no view to the street but we were aware of that when booking. It may be an issue if you were staying for a few nights, but good for us as it was just a base.

Good Weekend

We were in lovely Edinburgh for the weekend attending a wedding so this hotel was perfect for us. Didn't have breakfast in the hotel so can't comment, but found a local eatery which was lovely. Hotel bit dated but that didn't worry me. We had an internal room which means no window to the outside, would definitely have preferred this if staying longer. Hotel in good position near all the sites. Staff very good room perfectly clean and comfortable. Found the tram best way to travel from the airport to the hotel - actually stopped off outside the hotel so couldn't get any closer! And at a cost of £5 very reasonable! Lovely hotel for a short break like ours.

Overnight break

Booked this hotel for the fantastic location ,was a lot cheaper on here than any where else ,the rooms itself wasn't very big ,but large enough ,had a room at the lane so no view, room was spotless .comfy beds, comfy pillows, and a lovely bathroom looked like it had been recently refurbished. ,the reception staff are all polite and helpful, had a drink in the bar.,nice views didnt try lunch so can't comment .we paid a good price for this hotel especially compared to other hotels with the same star rating more than double the price.would definitely stay here again.

Great Visit to Edinburgh

The hotel was in a great location. Plenty of shopping nearby. The train station and bus shuttle to the airport are right across the street. The Royal Mile is nearby, easy to walk to. The staff was helpful when we needed them. The room was clean. I would stay there again.

Excellent central location

It was an excellent idea to have a bell to ring for assistance to help with luggage as there is 14 stairs to get to reception. Service at breakfast was a bit slow as food was not always ready on time.

Pleasant surprise.

Having read many mixed reviews about this hotel didn't really know what to expect. We had booked an internal junior double, so presumed we would end up in a box with no windows. How wrong were we. Our room was very generous with a bed that could have slept 4 and sofa bed, plus two windows ,tho no view. Clean, and comfortable room, spacious bathroom and our deal included full Scottish buffet style breakfast. Hotel staff were helpful and friendly. Location, overlooking princess street gardens, great for access to shops and bars. A couple of minor niggles. Can be noisy first thing in morning because the location and one of the slowest lifts I have ever come across. Because of the amount of stairs leading up to the reception not suitable for those with mobility problems. I think on reflection it is luck of the draw with this hotel. Got chatting to a couple who's stay was not going as successfully as ours, and they had ended up in a box. We were lucky.

Room with a not so great view

Located 5 mins from Waverley train station and bang in the centre of Princes Street so perfect for shopping / sightseeing. Staff very friendly / helpful - can't fault them. Breakfast was included in our room price and served in the hotel restaurant which has great views over Princes Street gardens and the Castle. Pretty average for a buffet breakfast and if we were paying for it we would have been a little disappointed as the quality of food wasn't that great...but it was adequate. We weren't lucky enough to bag a room with a Princes Street view - we ended up with no view except the fire escape which was littered with cigarette tabs - nice. Room was ok - clean enough but dated with marks on the walls and light fittings, scratched furniture, grubby net curtains. Nice clean bathroom - always a plus point...but...the lock on the door needed replacing. Big downside for us was the lack of air conditioning in the room - we had to ask for a fan from reception. Hate to imagine how uncomfortable the room gets in the warmer weather! Overall its in a great location but the hotel itself is pretty average - handy for business / sightseeing but requires updating.

Good value and central

Room was small but was very clean and had everything we needed. Bathroom was lovely and very modern. A very old building but the rooms have been modernised. Would have preferred the option of a continental breakfast.
