Great location

perfect location, right in the center of the city. Street noise was bothersome if the window was open, but otherwise no complaints. Very good value for the location.

Single Rooms as on the smaller side but ADEQUATE..... Staff EXTREMELY helpfull especially the receptionist who was on NIGHT duty (14th Aug) and DAY duty (15th Aug). This is the 3rd occassion I have chosen to stay at this hotel....HIGHLY RECOMMEND it.

Best to visit Edinburgh

A perfect location for an overall view of the city, and to visit it by foot. Room is very comfortable and well appointed. Breakfast is splendid. Two drawbacks: (1) no garage for those coming by car -- and the parking is quite a distance by foot, and (2) the restaurant closes at 9:30 pm -- as do practically all restaurants in Edinburgh -- which is very early especially in a city where it gets dark around 11:30 pm in the summer.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

Giuliano's is an Italian restaurant -- about 20 minutes walk from the hotel -- which is one of the few top remain opened late.

Good and Bad

I booked this hotel for 13 days, its location appeared excellent online, it turned out it was a great location, although noisy. The hotel is across from Waverly station, which has 24/7 bus and taxi traffic. This would not bother me, however, I slept with the window open due to no air con in the hotel. It was noisy at times. The room was VERY small, however it was clean and room service came each day. The staff was friendly and helpfull. I am not sure if I would stay here again.

Good location

Good place to stay if you're out and about in Edinburgh the whole time. Not for someone who wants to stay in the hotel other than for sleeping. Place is old and a bit beat up.

There was a mix up with our booking

There was a mix up with our booking on arrival but the lady at reception handled things really well and everything worked out fine. The room wasn't huge but it was quite spacious, the bathroom was large and everything was clean. There was free wifi and a restaurant on site. We booked just a room and we didn't eat breakfast there so I can't comment on the food but the hotel itself was very nice.

Although there is still scaffolding

Although there is still scaffolding due to ongoing refurbishment, we could not find fault with the hotel. The room was clean and nicely furnished and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Our only gripe was that because the room was so warm(we did not have the radiator switched on) we had to leave the window open all night and the noise from the numpties roaming the streets until all hours and the police sirens meant that we didn't get a very restful sleep. However, this was not the fault of the hotel and we will stay there again on our next break.

Oh my gosh, the room was so small,

Oh my gosh, the room was so small, where were we to put our 2 large cases??? Great view though, could see Edinburgh castle from the room and so close to Waverley station (walking distance) and the staff could not be much more helpful. Bit expensive for the room size,(but maybe this is what the prices are for staying intown down town??) discovered outer suburbs for B&B if one was to stay longer
