We booked this hotel as we were attending a wedding there. The hotel staff allowed us to check in early for the wedding. The wedding was amazing. staff great. Breakfast the next morning. was a bit disorganised and we didn't get what we ordered. But other than the hotel is fantastic

Excellent location, just need a tweak
I thought the hotel was very lovely, with a well appointed lobby that was a nice place to sit and visit with friends and other guests. The kilted concierge was very helpful - when he had a chance to help me. It was a very busy hotel and perhaps lacked in staffing at times. Too bad. The room was really nice - one thing - the old (but restored) windows were very high up so that what you can see is the clock tower next door and roof tops. I didn't actually mind but someone might. Otherwise, it was recently updated and had a great, contemporary tiled bath. The one thing I would check before arrival is the availability of in-room internet. I did not have it and that proved to be a problem when a huge hurricane headed towards the east coast where I'm from.

Supeb location and stuff
Very positive experience but 4 stars due a bit noisy room (noise caused by night club customers on opposite side of the George street). Excellent breakfast.

Great location for a family trip
This was a perfect location to explore Edinburgh. It is approximately a 15 minute walk to the Royal Mile, which is home to the Edinburgh castle, parliament, etc. Princes street and Rose street, where you can find many pubs, restaurants, shopping are only a few blocks from the hotel. The Waverly train station is also within walking distance which is great for day trips. It's also where you catch the AirLink bus to the airport. The hotel itself was nice. The staff was friendly and helpful with restaurant recommendations, scheduling taxis, etc. My room was very spacious and clean. Flat screen TV, iPod speaker system... The bathroom was a bit small, but not to the point where it was an issue. My only complaint was the lack of thermostat in the room. It was nice and sunny on our trip, so the room was a bit warm at night. Opening the windows cooled it down, but I'd prefer to have air conditioning controls.

Happy Traveler
The George Hotel is a very charming with a very nice, comfortable lobby area. Although the rooms are a bit small, it did accommodate us nicely with its king size bed and we managed to store several pieces of luggage. Also, the rooms are well maintained and very clean, with comfortable bed and pillows. Its central location to major attractions was a great asset, especially to the bus tour area, Edinburgh Castle, shopping district on the High Mile, etc.

Sightseeing tip:
Short walk from hotel
Take the bus tours which are just short walking distances from many hotels. The buses were only about a 5 minute walk from the George Hotel. We took 5 bus tours which allowed us to see all the major sights in and around Edinburgh. You can hop on and off the buses to enjoy some of the major attractions in more detail, such as the Edinburgh Castle. Since these buses run every 15 minutes, this was a great way for us to get around, since we didn't have a car.

Rip off restaurant
Do not go for food in the restaurant as food is average and expensive!!! Also bar in hotel is very expensive, and staff are abrupt and ignore you half the time. if you want a drink defintley go outside and explore.
