Christmas get together

The system of booking into your room is annoying; I would prefer an option to take my key and go. The Hotels staff were great, and the location is perfect for visiting Edinburgh. The bedroom was fine, ours was next to the main street and therefore ended up noisy, the rooms just lacked finish. The TV unit was ugly, the bed a bit too small, and the bathroom was not as tidy as it could have been. I’m being critical but to be truthful it is a great Hotel, very beautiful inside.

Excellent for first timers at a 5 star hotel

Only very minor issues. Slight whiff in the elevator going up to the top floors in the evening and the television was programmed for a German guest, but otherwise absolutely perfect. It was our honeymoon and they treated us as such. Will definitely be going back for anniversaries to come.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

Favorite Pubs: Whiski's, Deacon Brody's, and The world's end. GREAT!! Try steak and ale pie and fish & chips. Also, loved Eteaket for afternoon tea or light lunch located on Frederick St.

OMG! More than we ever expected!

This hotel was fantastic! Words can not describe how great this hotel was from the staff to location to amenities. Whatever you needed you had. We were so sad to leave this place. It had a great location, great view and the best staff of any hotel in the world! Would definitely love to go back some day!

Disappointing

The rooms were dark, old and worn. Musty smell. Mattress was sagging in visible "U" shape. Carpet and furniture were worn and dingy. No hot water before dinner. Housekeeping did not replace all amenities. Floor tiles in lobby were broken and wobbled when walked on. On positive side, Location was good, across from train station. Interesting tea service shelf that pulled up to desk level. Bottle of fresh water left outside room at night. Staff was very accommodating.

Great location

Just off the Royal Mile, The Scotsman is in a wonderful location for an Edinburgh visit. It is close enough to major sights like the Castle and Holyrood Palace to walk and yet still quiet. Our disappointment was that one day we returned at 4:00 p.m., and the room was not yet made up. That's not five star.
