Lovely location, hard bed

Hard to find but beautiful spot and building once we were there. Up two-and-a-half flights of stairs to our room, with no elevator, but staff were very helpful with suitcases. Room wasn't totally clean. Bed was incredibly hard. Lovely view from window. We hadn't realized that breakfast was not included in the price. Maybe our mistake, but the £10 per person per breakfast bill on checking out was a bit of a sticker shock. Nowhere near enough to walk for alternative breakfasts, so a bit trapped. But great location in relation to tourist areas like Dartmoor and Exeter.

Worth finding

We had trouble finding this hotel. We drove down lots of single track lanes and had to reverse back a couple of times. Stopped to ask someone if they knew where the hotel was and he stated "I wish I had a pound for every time I have been asked that question". We eventually found it and were pleasantly surprised. The view was fantastic and the rooms were very comfortable. We had a lovely meal in the dining room and discovered that breakfast was included in the price. Excellent value!!!

I took advantage of the low rates

I took advantage of the low rates through Hotel club, and was impressed particularly with the service. Internet was free, although wireless could be weak signal. Reasonable size room, very flexible with meals, and bar opening. No complaints, and great location for outlook, view etc. A bit of a winding road back to Exeter, but it really is not far. Car park large and free. A great deal.

We only stayed for one night,

We only stayed for one night, but found all the staff we encountered to be friendly and exceptionally helpful. The hotel is in a rural location and set in beautiful grounds, which is great for a quiet break. We arrived quite late in the evening, but the chef willingly stayed on to cook us a meal, which was excellent. The room was warm and the bed comfortable, although the decor was showing some early signs of looking tired. This was not out of place in such a beautiful old building. We would have no hesitation returning to this hotel.
