The Alexander Thomson Hotel is historic Victorian era building which forms the Architectural landscape of the city. The Hotel has very high ceilings and very high windows from that era and every effort is put in to retain as much originality as possible. Most Rooms are quite large and so are the Bathrooms. The Rooms have all the basic amenities required by a business traveler or a tourist. Traditional Scottish Breakfast is included in the price and there is a Bar which opens till the wee hours of the morning only for the Hotel Guests. There is a very quite lounge for people to sit and relax which also has a free wi fi internet access for the residents only. Come and enjoy the beautiful city and our warm and friendly service.

Hotel that hits the spot

Overall I had a very positive experience at this hotel with good value for money. The staff were very helpful and attentive. They did their best to assist in any way they could. The room I had was comfortable and clean. The breakfast was ample but after having the same choices every day during our 5 day stay it began to get a little tiresome. I would`ve liked to have seen a little variety in the food offered and given its a Scottish Hotel where was the Porridge that would have been nice to have? The only reason why I marked the hotel down from perfect was the lack of fridge in the room . The only other problem the hotel has is lack of parking but you can park on the streets nearby after 6pm or in a car park nearby

Disappointing

Hot water didn't get to 5th floor at all once and on other days only after running taps for 15 mins. Drawers and cupboard wouldn't stay closed. Lots of bits of DIY not finished off properly. Windows open too far for 5th floor - could climb and drop out. Breakfast too heavy - no fresh fruit or decent bread or plain yoghurts but plenty of fudge ones ! But quiet in rooms and very helpful staff; good location for using public transport.

Not great, but not good either.

[...] the room was a mess. The bathroom did not have a door, the carpets and walls were in extremely bad shape with holes and stains throughout. [...] The hotel served breakfast in the morning, and that was actually good. The location is right across from the Radisson Blu, but it is a rough area. The elevator in the hotel only fits two people, and was quite dodgy, we took the stairs after the first experience.. I wouldn't recommend this hotel unless the price is bargain basement.

Non pricy and perfect location.

Non pricy and perfect location. The staff was very accommodating by letting us in earlier than the usual check in time. Thanks a lot for the wonderful experience and strongly recommended for those that wish to roam Glasgow for a day or two. Room size is spacious especially the bathroom and perfect soft bed with no noise at its surrounding.

Unbeatable location for the price

The Hotel was centrally located. Close to Subway, Bus, and Train stations. The complimentay breakfast was excellent. Hotel was very clean and staff was very friendly/helpful. Hotel is close to great pubs, grocery stores, and shopping. It is located in a very family friendly area. Close to alot of attractions, such as: Buchanan ST.(lots of musicians busking), George Square, The Glasgow Museum of Modern Art, an hour bus ride to Edinburgh, a short subway ride to the University of Glasgow and the Rangers F.C. stadium. We would recommend to others and would stay there again on our next trip to Glasgow.

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

Discovery pass- 3.50 GBP to ride subway all day. There are many stops and many things and places to visit just outside the subway stations or a short distance away from them. Also, "Primark". Best and most inexpensive clothes shopping in the U.K. It like Walmart, but everything is made in Ireland(meaning better quality).

Excellent for a budget priced

Excellent for a budget priced hotel. Very good breakfast. Room amenities were very good and unusually included complimentary bottled water. Complimentary wifi, and whilst the area was a little run down the hotel was close to the station, bus stops and plenty of restaurants.

Although I didn't spend much time

Although I didn't spend much time in the hotel, the few members of staff that I did interact with were excellent. Great central location, and although close to the Central Station & Subway, not affected by the noise. I spent the bit extra and had a superior room, which technically was a suite. V nice. View of the river just!, if you looked between the buildings opposite. Strange mixture of interior design, with some areas classic Glasgow School (or was it Mocking Tosh), and ornate victoriania without an organic shape amongst it. Would definately stay again.
