In the heart of Glasgow stands the historic Grand Central Hotel. A much-loved icon in the city, the hotel has undergone a 20 million refurbishment transforming it into one of Glasgow's most superior, conference, banqueting and short break destinations and once again takes its place as Glasgow's leading four-star hotel. Whether you're looking for an inspirational conference, meeting or training venue, a spectacular banqueting suite for your next event, planning a fabulous wedding, looking to indulge in a glass of bubbles in Champagne Central, or simply enjoy a relaxing break, The Grand Central Hotel is the leading business venue and first choice luxury hotel in Glasgow. From the stunning Grand Room with capacity for 400 to the eclectic mix of 21 unique and flexible event rooms, from the beautiful Champagne Bar to the stylish and relaxing bedrooms - everything at The Grand Central Hotel has been beautifully renovated and loving restored to reveal a truly magnificent hotel. Caledonian Railways opened central Station, the main train hub of Glasgow in 1879 with the neighboring Central hotel opening just 4 years later. The hotel was designed by Scottish architect Robert Rowand Anderson and he adopted the Queen Anne style of architecture; an informal style that includes picturesque details, intricate gables and multi-paned windows. Over the years, the hotel was extended and adapted but the main architecture was maintained. The Central Hotel played host to many significant celebrity faces but is probably best known for being the venue to which the world's first long-distance television John Logie Baird transmitted pictures on 24 May 1927. The Central Hotel has entertained most of the world's leading politicians, from JFK to Winston Churchill and Hollywood superstars including Laurel and Hardy and Frank Sinatra, not to mention Roy Rogers and his trusty Trigger! It was reported that Trigger had a bigger suite than Roy Rogers! The Future, now the transformation has been completed, the Grand Central Hotel has once again taken its place as Glasgow's leading four-star hotel. It is now a must-stay destination for shoppers, theatergoers and the short break guest to the city. It has the latest luxuries for business travelers and gives conference and banqueting organizers the WOW factor they want for their next event. The best luxury hotel in Glasgow is back. The hotel also offers free breakfast and no smoking policy as additional amenity.

Central

Great location. Staff on first visit were exceptional and allowed me to check in early. Thank you! Second visit coincided with a Christmas party at the hotel. So, it was a bit noisy. Note to hotelier: Get some background noise generators for the rooms.

Money-saving tip: Short drive from hotel

The taxi to airport is around 20-22 quid. The hotel will lock the fare at 15, but the taxi driver wouldn't give me the reduced fare, as I was late to the taxi due to a late breakfast. Tip: no need to book a cab in advance for the morning at this central location. Just order it through the concierge to get the fixed rate.

Plesant stay - nothing special

Over all very plesant. Very central location which lead to traffic noise from early morning. Room (241) very warm even stuffy could not open windows for any lenght of time due to traffic noise. Heating could not be regulated within room. We stayed at Halloween and the weather was unseasonally mild. On the plus side the room was very clean and a good size. If you like a very warm room you will enjoy it. Champange bar very pleasant, you never know who you might see there!!

The Grand Central Hotel Glasgow

Times have changed. June was perfect - October was not. Gone are the shortbread cookies/biscuits in the room. Gone are the amazing bath amenities. Look for only shampoo, creme rinse, and bath gel. Gone are face cloths. Book the wine with the room and it is no longer delivered. Now you have to enjoy dinner first at their restaurant to receive it. The beds are very hard so if you like a firm bed this place is for you. It is a beautiful hotel with soaring ceilings, the staff is the best, and the location can not be beat. I would prefer a larger bath, cooler room (some rooms have the heat on and it can not be turned off right now - we were given fans), i miss those fabulous shortbread cookies, and need a much softer bed. I love this hotel; I was so disappointed this last trip.

Great customer service in a great town!

It was my 1st trip to Glasgow after staying at the Grand Central for 4 nights I can't imagine staying anywhere else next time I go. The location is terrific, steps from the train station, restaurants and shopping nearby. There's even a sightseeing tour bus stop 2 blocks away. The rooms a bit small, but they were clean and the bathrooms were quite spacious. I thought the bar and restaurant were a bit pricey, but with so many options in the surrounding blocks it was not a problem for me. The highlight for me was the hotel staff. Everyone was friendly and went out of their way to be helpful at all times. Sandy at reception was particularly helpful.

Good location

The hotel is conveniently located with direct access to the Glasgow Central train station, and our room was clean and comfortable. Unfortunately it lacks recreation facilities, though access to a nearby gym with small pool can be had for 5 pounds per person. Also we found that some staff were standoffish, though others (especially Jim the concierge) were warm and helpful
