Red Lion in Grasmere

We arrived at the property just in time to get one of the last parking spaces in the small car park. We were greeted by a friendly, if surprised, staff who went about sorting our reservation that apparently not yet been transmitted to them. Our room at the end of a hall was quite comfortable and had a nice view. The public areas of the hotel are well cared for and comfortable. Dinner was a multiple-course fixed price affair, so we preferred to walk about the village and enjoy the scenery, taking a meal at one of several local restaurants. As nice as the area is, we still had to catch up on work and were pleased that there was free wireless Internet throughout the hotel, including a good signal in our room. We also appreciated that there were multiple power outlets available, including one near a mirror. There was a small TV in the room with limited channels. All in all, the Red Lion is a pleasant hotel with a friendly staff and reasonable rates. It is certainly a comfortable choice if you are visiting the area.

Great Place to Stay

The town of Grasmere is really a super place to stay while on a visit to the Lake District. The Red Lyon was one of the best priced hotels and I was very happy with it. The free breakfast was very nice and the dining room was great too. They have an indoor pool, pub (of course), a reading room, dining room, gym, and sun room. They really have more than you need on a trip. The hotel is right downtown and within easy walking distance to many stores, attractions, and resturants. The hotel staff were eager to help with tour information and bookings. I couldn't ask for more assistance and help. Without question, I'd tell anyone to stay there.

Description
Situated on the edge of picturesque Grasmere village, and nestling in two acres of riverside gardens surrounded by majestic fells, Rothay Garden is a perfect choice for a relaxing break in the Lake District. Rothay Garden provides the comfort, quality and peace and quiet that so many visitors to the Lake District look for. Owned and operated by Chris Carss and his dedicated team since 1990, the hotel has this year benefitted from a 3 million redevelopment programme. Today, the hotel's 30 beautiful bedrooms, including 12 gorgeous suites, are an ideal base for a perfect short break in The Lakes. The stylish Garden Restaurant overlooking the hotel's two acres of gardens, chic lounge bars, two AA-rosette awarded food and a delightful new Riverside Spa all combine to ensure that guests can have the short break or holiday that they deserve. And just outside the hotel, the renowned Lake District awaits - Grasmere really is the "jewel of the Lakes" and is, of course, centrally situated for Ambleside, Windermere, Keswick and Kendal. Poet William Wordsworth described Grasmere at "the loveliest spot that man hath ever known", and there's no doubt that the village is both the geographical and cultural centre of the Lake District, still personifying charm and "olde worlde" English heritage. Children over 5 are welcome to stay at the hotel. Please note the property does not have a lift. Pets are not accepted.

The hotel is ideally situated

The hotel is ideally situated on the main road from windermere to Keswick and is only a short walk in to Grasmere village. We had mixed feelings regarding our room. The bedroom area was clean, tidy and functional but the bathroom was tired, dated and in need of some work. As the radiator couldn't be turned off the room was too hot. This didn't however detract too much from the stay. The best part, for us, was the restaraunt. The food was excellent, both dinner and breakfast, and the staff were friendly and professional. We would stay there again.
