Built in 1650 as a coaching inn, and mentioned in a Wordsworth poem "The Wag-goner", The Swan Hotel, Grasmere is one of the oldest in the Lake District. Nestled in the Cumbrian countryside, with views across the Fells, cozy and inviting hotel is ideal for walkers and cyclists. With open sunny vistas in summer and blazing log fires in winter, it's the ideal base for exploring the wonders of the Lake District National Park. Afterwards, relax with a delicious meal in restaurant or enjoy the convivial atmosphere of the Walkers' Bar before retiring to a traditionally - furnished, comfortable room.

The hotel is ideally situated

The hotel is ideally situated on the main road from windermere to Keswick and is only a short walk in to Grasmere village. We had mixed feelings regarding our room. The bedroom area was clean, tidy and functional but the bathroom was tired, dated and in need of some work. As the radiator couldn't be turned off the room was too hot. This didn't however detract too much from the stay. The best part, for us, was the restaraunt. The food was excellent, both dinner and breakfast, and the staff were friendly and professional. We would stay there again.

A tortuous route to some rooms!

A tortuous route to some rooms! I had the feeling of over-worked, multi-tasking staff.

Excellent location within a 5

Excellent location within a 5 mins walk of Grasmere. The room was a good size although the bathroom was rather small. All the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Restaurant food prices were rather high and we found it better to eat in Grasmere itself. We'd stay here again.
