Great Stay!

  • C. Lee
  • 6 Apr 2012
Our room was not ready when we arrived, so we got an upgrade to a deluxe room with a view of Hyde Park. It was a very comfortable room. The staff was friendly and helpful. The Island Grill restaurant was great for breakfast. Lounge comfortable and quiet. There are a couple other options for breakfast nearby. The location of the hotel is great, right around the corner from the Lancaster Gate Underground stop. Less than a 10 minute walk from Paddington Station and the pubs around there-Easy access from Heathrow Express.

Great Hotel

  • Aurelie
  • 26 Apr 2012
The Orchard was clean and quite nice. The staff were very friendly and helpful! The room was big for a European hotel and was well furnished. The hotel is a ten minute walk from Paddington station - so very convenient if flying in from Heathrow (the Heathrow express drops you off at Paddington) and it's very easy to get around London from there using the Tube. It's not far from Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens too. I would definitely there again! The only thing that was a little disappointing was that you had to pay for wifi if you wanted to use it in the room, but there are plenty of cafes in the area who have free wifi....

Pretty good for London

  • Brett S.
  • 29 Sep 2011
This place is in a really good location if you're not looking to stay in the direct middle of London. It's in a really nice area of Westminster near Kensington Gardens/Hyde Park. It's close to Paddington Station or the Totteham Court Underground stations. There's plenty of good places to eat nearby. Even the restaraunt and bar in the hotel are also very nice. The rooms are small, but no smaller than you find anywhere else in London for this price. They are clean and nice though. The staff is friendly and helpful. I would gladly stay here again or recommend it to a friend. You should be pleased if you stay here.

Fine for a stopover

  • MSW.
  • 23 Mar 2012
Location is ideal, being close to London's attractions, tube station and Paddington. There are plenty of shops/restaurants nearby too. On the downside, the room had no towels, which I didn't notice until I needed one. Also the bathroom had a small trail of ants marching through it. Room is small but otherwise fine.

first time I'd stayed at this hotel , my single room was very small but adequate as I didn't plan to spend too much time there.hotel has 5 floors and no lift and when I asked I was given a room on the first floor, when I first went into the room the heaters were on full in the bedroom and bathroom and for me the heat was too much but the receptionist was helpful and I was able to turn off the heaters which was fine, a very large window in the room but unable to open it but fine as heaters could be controlled. breakfast adequate for me best to get down early as you might have to wait at busy times, location excellent for 3 tube stations Queensway, Bayswater and Notting Hill Gate.No 390 bus from Bayswater Road to Oxford St, and Euston , a large selection of restaurants of all types in the area and it felt a very safe area to walk alone at night.

Lovely and convenient place - only one problem

  • ChicagoKathy
  • 11 Dec 2011
Our double room wasn't available upon our midnight arrival, so we had two single rooms the first night. In a generous gesture on the hotel's part, we received a (hearty) complimentary breakfast every morning. The location is fantastic, the rooms clean, the beds firm, and the building gorgeously refurbished on the ground floor. The only negative is that the rooms are so small that it's difficult for two people to move around at once in a double room. I know that's typical for London hotels, but I was a little surprised this qualifies as a "four-star" hotel.

Room was clean and fresh towels next morning, TV was broken, you need to pay extra for internet (£1 or £2 for an hour), shower head didn't stay on wall because bracket was broken.. Kettle worked, hair dryer worked... Never got up in time for breakfast, either day of stay... Lift was dodgy but worked (Slowly)... Never set foot in the bar or food area... Woke early Monday morning with construction noise... Our room was clean.. 24 hour reception... Location was brilliant... across the road from a little food shop... Everything is on Craven Road McDonalds KFC BK etc.. Couple of nice pubs and cafes.. ATM around the corner... The Paddington Hilton is practically across the road... 500 yards from Paddington station... Cant think of anything else but it worked for us because we wanted somewhere clean and close to the center with good tube access...

This place was the cheapest available

  • R
  • 1 Apr 2011
This place was the cheapest available on the date in the Paddington area. Previously I had trusted Rates to Go to have a minimum standard. This place certainly was below our minimum standard. We looked at the room and left and had to book somewhere else at walk in rates. It looks like one of those places being run down waiting for a redevelopment. Perhaps students and backpackers will accept the level of decor and cleanliness but for the rest of us I would give it a miss.

From the sweetest smelling flowers in the lobby to the temptingly plumped sofas in the lounge, it's the attention to detail that makes The Colonnade in Little Venice distinctively different. Unusual touches include the JFK Suite, which features the bed made for John F. Kennedy's visit in 1962, and the Turing Suite, named after the mathematician responsible for breaking the Enigma code during World War II who was born here in 1912. Behind the beautiful Victorian faade of The Colonnade is a charming boutique hotel that is both elegant and distinguished in character. Built as two separate residences in 1865, The Colonnade continues to extend all the intimacy and comfort of a luxurious private home. The hotel has 43 guestrooms including eight suites, each carefully adorned in sumptuous fabrics and lavish antiques to uphold the unique ambiance prevalent throughout. Egyptian cotton linen adorns the beds and guests are provided with tea and coffee making facilities and cozy robes and slippers for those quiet, down-time moments. Celebrating our 30th Anniversary!

  • Miss Cheryl
  • 18 Oct 2011
We loved the Colonnade. The location was in, what seemed to be, a very safe neighborhood and very close to the Warwick Ave. underground (Bakerloo line). We traveled everywhere on the Tube, so the short two minute walk was a bonus. The staff were eager to please. The room was a bit small (although European rooms tend to be smaller than American), but very comfy. The bathroom was roomy (oddly enough) for a European bathroom. Would have been nice if the room price included a continental breakfast. The breakfast charges were quite high (but not surprisingly so, considering most hotels tend to charge a lot for breakfast). The hotel is undergoing upgrades right now, so our room view comprised schaffolding (we knew this). A great stay at a very nice hotel. We would come back!

The location is excellent with

  • CAMILIA
  • 11 Aug 2011
The location is excellent with only one stop away from Paddington and a few minutes on foot from the tube station. The room was quite small and kind of inconvenient being on the 4th level since the lift only goes up to the 3rd. The furnishings have clearly seen better days. Staff was polite but not very friendly. The iron and trouser press were not working but a replacement was sent up quickly upon request. The air conditioner was old-fashioned and hummed so loudly, you can even hear the one next door!

A recommander.

A Solid Budget Option

  • First Timer in Edinburgh
  • 3 Oct 2011
My wife and I had a very nice stay of 8 nights at the London Elizabeth in September. This is an aging property, without particular frills, but it's a very good budget choice (for London prices anyway). The hotel is around the corner from the Lancaster Gate tube stop and an easy walk to Paddington Station. The street it's on is busy and the extremely busy road along the top of Hyde Park/Kensington Gardens is just around the corner, so do yourself a favor as we did and request a room in the back. The walls are a bit thin regardless, but we never had any particular problem with sound. Our room was small, but not tiny. Everything was clean, although some of the decor was a bit worn. The room had a safe, a trouser press, a television (only 4 channels, but we didn't vacation in London to watch TV), and plentiful hot water (if anything the pressure was too high) at all times of day. The bathroom was very clean, and my only issue was with the shower, which was high and a bit difficult to clamber into, and then so slim that it was difficult to stay out of the shower curtain while showering. The continental breakfast was adequate: four kinds of pastry, cereals, two juices, toast, tea, coffee, hard-boiled eggs, yogurt, and mixed cut fruit. By the end of eight days, a little variation would have been welcome, as would a bit of cheese, but everything was always fresh and service was good. A full breakfast was available for 6 pounds more. We didn't eat in the restaurant otherwise. We got good help with restaurant recommendations from the concierge, and there are plenty of options in the neighborhood, particularly if you like Middle Eastern and Asian food. Several decent pubs were an easy walk away. Don't be mistaken: this isn't the Ritz, but they took good care of us and we never had an issue in eight days that required remediation. This is a solid budget option in a good location in a city of expensive hotels. I would stay again.

I booked a small single room and I´ve seen smaller rooms so it was nice. Bathroom and shower were VERY small though. Anyway, I got just what I booked. Only stayed 1 night (arrived late and let early) so it was fine. Short walk from Paddington staiton to get the Heathrow express.Nice pubs within 5-10 minutes walk.

This is not a hotel for you if you want a room like a holiday inn or other chain. I slept great and the room was clean. Be aware that the rooms are decorated in a way that might not suit everyone, I liked the character, felt like I was staying in an eccentric aunts spare room. Good stay i'll go back.

Great country Hotel in the City

  • Horseman
  • 22 Feb 2011
The Byron is like a congenial country hotel transplanted to the city. The rooms are nicely decorated and clean. We had a large bedroom and a large full bath. Very nice breakfast room. Helpful staff. This is as nice a small hotel as you will find. As in all hotels made from converted townhouses, the halls wander; and there are back stairs. But, there is a lift. The price has gone up lately; but I will use this hotel again.

The hotel has a great location near two tube stops. Room was typical European in size, but apportioned well. My only downside to the room is that it didn't have air conditioning, then again in the UK one doesn't really need it. It would have been nice though. The hallways are small (and the elevator), but again that is typical in European hotels. Hotel staff was courteous, bed was comfortable, and room was clean. Food around hotel was Eastern European and Asian, and quite plentiful. Other food is just a a tube stop away. I thought paying for internet was a bit expensive.

Cons: The beds were very uncomfortable. The room carpets were grungy, sticky, and in serious need of replacement. We didn't want our baby crawling around on them! The flooring in the bathroom was peeling up and the shower had mildew. The room flooring was so uneven that the wardrobe leaned at a serious angle. The hallway flooring was also very uneven. Almost like it had speed bumps! Very inconvenient for pushing luggage and a baby stroller. Pros: Good breakfast, but it costs extra. Friendly customer service. Overall: I would not stay here again.

Not quite as impressive as the web site phot's depict but clean and presentable with an excellent view of Hyde Park. Staff helpful and provided free upgrade. The hotel is well placed for two tube stations so access to the city is very straight forward and a range of shops pubs etc within walking distance. There is some road noise but this is normal for the area. Only downside is the cost of breakfast, £15pp is about on par for other hotels but there are many alternatives within walking distance. Car parking is secure and cheaper than most at £25 per 24 hours.

The single room was definitely a single but with a decent sized single bed. Couldn't swing the proverbial cat.... Modern en suite shower room with lovely hot water. Friendly staff. I cannot comment on dining/breakfast facilities as I did not use them. The reception safe turned out not to be a safe but things kept behind reception! I think a room safe would a great improvement. I would stay again, without valuables.

Small, very typical average Bayswater hotel with a good, quiet location in the area (10 minute walk to Queensway or Paddington station). My single room (#007) was incredible small but redecorated and with a good bed. The room was made for sleeping and not to spend time in. Good breakfast and the hotel was clean throughout.
