it's pearl, pity no breakfast included in the price.

  • 22 May 2012
I hadn't been to London for many years and recall the last hotel to be uncomfortable, dirty and unpleasant. this time was altogether different. We were a party of four (two couples) and were each delighted by the staff and service of the hotel, it's proximity to central London AND the double glazed windows to ensure quietness amidst London's 24 hour throng! It is part of Victoria station's building so just 30 mins to gatwick airport by train, which suited us perfectly. The rooms were spotless, comfortable and really well appointed for our needs although one bathroom was a tad pokey. The hotel is a gracious, generously proportioned old building that's been beautifully restored, so it's just a pleasure to be in. Unfortunately, there was no breakfast included in the price which we only found out about upon arrival. It seemed a strange thing and left a bit of a sour taste with the welcome. But there are lots of places nearby that do breakfasts quite well. We didn't dine in the hotel restaurant but we did pay £10 each for a voucher to have a Sunday buffet breakfast in the brasserie (People were queuing up for it and consequently the floor staff were struggling to keep up) and here's the thing - no real tea or coffee! In fact, the watery excuses from the thermos flasks were pretty awful. Actually, in five days we dined or coffeed in around twenty different places (from posh to ordinary establishments) and not ONE of them offered real tea in a pot. isn't that remarkable for England! So.... If you love your tea, i recommend you take your own as you can boil up the kettle in your hotel room and sip tea from your bed. All in all, i would highly recommend this hotel and will stay there again.

Small space but service was very good

  • solrac215
  • 20 Feb 2012
Although the room given to me was on the top floor, tiny, small, barely could move and it was a herculean effort to up and down each time - the stay was seemingly pleasant. staff both in the breakfast room was very accommodating, they let me get more pillows and towels and more which is something i really appreciate in a hotel. Location wise, hotel is perfect for first timers, very near to those flying in via Gatwick. if i had to improve something, probably the beds need refurbishing, or time to buy new ones now. i guess hotels of this level have as much the same offer as those near it, so i'd say price is already okay. Room Tip: if you're not too swank on room space, then this should be it, however if you'l have guests in, probably best to switch hotels with bigger room space.

You couldn't ask for a better location. Very easy to get to on the tube from Heathrow. Just about a 2 minute walk from Victoria Station to the hotel. We could see Buckingham Palace from our window! Locatd in the heart of the theater district. The room was a very good size by European standards. the only complaint was that the front desk staff spoke poor english and spoke very softly. It got embarassing to keep asking them to repeat what they were saying. The restaruant in the hotel had some of the best food we ate in London! Nice bar as well.

Cramped but clean

  • Lewa
  • 17 Apr 2012
Hutton's is on a street full of semi-budget hotels. It's fine in terms of cleanliness but a little cramped. The shower in our room was almost on top of the toilet. Not altogether unexpected though for London. Our main problem was that our room was right next to the reception which made it quite noisy at times. This would vary depending upon room though... Not a bad place to stay if you can get a good price.

Satisfait !

  • StephdeNice
  • 22 Nov 2011

When we checked in we brought 1 additional guest more than originally booked. Checked in at 10PM and they were going to bring up a rollaway bed. By 11PM no bed had arrived. I called and they said they were going to send one up. By 11:20 still no bed and called again. By 11:30 I called and cancelled the bed as my daughter and her husband were going to try to sleep on the twin bed. He ended sleeping part of the night on the floor. We did have a extra bed for the second night.

Great London vacation stay at St Ermins

  • real10
  • 6 Apr 2012
Great hotel and great location. The hotel is very clean and the staff incredibly nice and helpful. We had problems with the TV on the first night where it had to be rebooted every 5 minutes. When it was still occuring on the second night, the night manager, Bilal, moved us to another room and personally came up to help with the bags. He also credited us two days internet. The hotel location is right next to the St James tube which is on the district line and can get you pretty much anywhere. It also connects to Victoria Station which is how we came and went from the airport. West Minster Abbey was less than a 5 minute walk. The two rooms we stayed in had exterior obstructed views of brick walls so we pretty much kept the blinds closed but with the great location and since we were out most of the day anyway this was not that big of a deal. We never ate at the hotel so I cannot comment on the restaurant or prices. I did have a couple of draft beers at the hotel bar and a pint was ~7 pounds (or ~10 dollars) which is about what I paid at the hotel bar in New York when I stayed there last year so it was pretty much the same; better to hit the cool pubs like The Albert just around the corner for a pint half that price and served on cask. Overall, I highly recommend this hotel and would definitely stay again next time we visit London.

Good Value

  • 29 Mar 2012
This place was exactly what I was looking for; small, not a chain, a little more unique, centrally located and affordable. The staff were all very friendly and helpful, the room was clean and a good size. I had read a few reviews that complained about the size of the room but I felt it was the perfect size for me. The room was on ground level in the front and by the reception desk so it did get noisy at times with street noise and other people checking out early in the morning but I feel like that's kind of part of staying in a building in a big city with a whole bunch of other people in it. Breakfast was NOT included (I found reading in the fine print of most of the deal listings that when it said "breakfast included" it really meant "breakfast available") however I was able to eat there and was charged when checking out. I liked having the option to eat there or elsewhere and I found that a similarly sized breakfast at a chain restaurant near Victoria Station cost about the same amount. Speaking of Victoria Station, it was only a few blocks away providing easy access to three major tube lines. If you feel like your hotel stay should put you in the lap of luxury than this place may not be for you, but if you want clean accommodations and a helpful staff to answer all your questions than this place will be just your speed.

Great Experience in a great place

  • Ana Cris
  • 15 Apr 2012
I stayed at this hotel with my husband and 2 kids for one week. Everything was excellent. Upon our arrival, they sent us straight to have breakfast since we were starving and the staff came to us to do our check in. They also realized we were very tired having flown during the night plus a 5-hour time difference so they gave us a room to rest while our room was getting ready. When we got our apartment on the second floor, my husband didn't like the lack of a view and they upgraded us to another one on the third floor with a great view of the St. James Court. Our apartment was great: 3 bedrooms, living room and a full kitchen with a Nespresso coffee machine, dishwasher, washing/dryer machine. The hotel location is great: 2 min walk from the Buckingham Palace, 2 min from an Underground station, less than 10 min walk to the Westminster Abbey and Parliament. The staff could not be better. They made us feel like we were staying at a friend's house. The only reason why I gave a 4-star to Amenities was because in my apartment there was not an electrical outlet in any of the bathrooms which made it difficult when I needed to blow dry my hair and would make it hard for a man using an electrical shaver. But this would never prevent me from going back again and again.

Although this hotel is very old, the rooms were clean and the location was great. The bathrooms aren't located in the rooms, however, they are remodeled and kept very clean.

Loved the experience of having breakfast in an international community of travelers; only coffee, orange juice cereal and toast but the location was fabulous, no lift so be prepared. Easy access to the tube and great neighborhood.

This hotel is disgusting. We

This hotel is disgusting. We woke at 4am to catch an early train and found bed bugs all through the bed and room. This was our first experience with bed bugs and after much research we discovered that they can get into your luggage and hitch a ride home with you. As a result we had to throw out suitcases and wash everything in hot water to ensure we killed them. This was a real inconvenience and the bites were terrible. Further, the hotel has NO lift and 82 steps to the top level - not easy with luggage. There was no offer of help from the guy behind the desk. Do yourself a favour and stay elsewhere!

Very Nice Hotel

  • Jerro
  • 22 Mar 2011
Very nice room, lovely furnishings, very helpful staff. The only complaint would be the distance from the main elevator to the room. I counted 155 steps. The elevator closest to the room went down to the Spa and Courtyard and was extremely small. Otherwise, we all would definitely recommend this hotel to friends and family.

Unbeatable location for the price

I was with my b-friend on vacation in London and we were happy that this hotel was chosen. We had no complains at all. We arrived at the hotel around 11 am and since our room was ready, we were allowed to go to the room right away. A room was a little bit small but sunny and clean. The bed was very comfortable with a down comforter and down pillows. Even though internet connection in rooms was not free, we were able to use the complimentary internet service in a business center. The best thing about the hotel is it's in a walking distance from Buckingham Palace (3min), The Parlament and The Westminster Abbey (15 min), etc. Also, it's very closed to a metro station. It's so expensive to use taxi in London. We would like also to recommend a cool pub that is located around a corner on Victoria street. We enjoined a huge choice of beer, delicious like home made food and a good service. We will definitely stay in this hotel next time.

Rooms are small, but nice. Great central location in the city. Good free breakfast as well, allowing you to get a decent and healthy meal before you set out for the day. For the price it was as expected. I would stay again... They also have a small bar in the lobby so you can grab a drink on your way in or out.

My room hadn't been cleaned properly, i.e the wastepaper basket hadn't been emptied. The breakfast was rather ordinary with soggy toast. Position is fine although nearer to Pimlico than Victoria.

Excellent Location, Value and Staff

  • Ron

We had two rooms and stayed for nine nights and really enjoyed our stay. My son and I were in London two years ago for a week (stayed at a different hotel) and were returning this time with my other son and his wife. We had a wonderful time seing the sights from one end of the city to the other. The hotel location was excellent with St. Jame's Park subway (tube) station and bus stops only short walks away. Having breakfast downstairs at the hotel restaurant was a great way to start each day. The staff at both the hotel and restaurant were extremely friendly and helpful. The rooms were very neat and clean. The bathrooms even had a 120 volt outlet which allowed my electric razor to be used & recharged which, unlike cameras and cell phones, would not have been possible with the standard UK 240 volt charge. The only problem we had in both rooms was the that the ceiling air conditioners were unreliable. In spite of fans that were provided by the hotel and the AC's being reset a few times, we had a couple of uncomforable nights sleep. Overall, we all felt that the hotel was a great place to stay (location, value and staff) and would definitely go back there again.

Good for the money

  • curlymom
  • 1 May 2009
The hotel is just around the block from Victoria, so it is good for quick trips. It is a small room and our bathroom was just outside the door in the hall, but the water pressure was very iffy. If you are on a budget, this is a good choice, it is clean and comfortable. The staff was nice and helpful. I probably wouldn't stay for more than a few days at a time, as the bathroom situation would get tiring, but for a couple of nights here and there, it is a very good budget option.
