overall the experience was a good one, great location for seeing all the major london sites, easy to find, staff was friendly. Cleaning staff could have been better, went out one day and came back to a sticky floor which was'nt sticky when we left in the morning. Kleenex box was not refilled when it was empty after the first day and stayed empty the whole four days. Minor things, nothing serious it was a good stay and would recommed the hotel to friends and family

Christmas in London

  • Christmas in London
  • 2 Jan 2012
The Montague is lovely at Christmas-- a smiling staff, festive decorations, and the view on to the beautiful gardens is not to be missed. The hotel decor has a great deal of character, the rooms are very comfortable, and we appreciated the cleanliness of the accommodations. We booked a package, then were asked GBP 10 a night to assure a suite facing towards the back. A small reason for concern: five bar charges, some of them substantial, were made to our room, without our knowledge. They were taken off when we informed the hotel they were not ours, however.

"lovely, quaint boutique hotel"

  • American in London
  • 7 Dec 2010
Arrived early and were greeted immediately and warmly by staff. Our room was not yet ready but the concierge offered suggested activities to pursue in the interim. We were served complimentary tea while considering our plans. The room was small but seemed larger due to the high ceilings. The decor was beautiful, old English. The appointments were quite nice, as was the complimentary internet. Breakfast was delicious and served by a most attentive staff. The concierge made excellent suggestions regarding restaurants in the area. All on the staff were courteous, friendly, warm, and most helpful. We spent most of the days in London sightseeing, attending theater and the concierge helped us with maps, hailing taxis, etc.

Description
There aren't many genuinely quiet streets right in the heart of London. But they do exist - and The Royal Trafalgar is on one of them. In fact, you might never guess that Piccadilly Circus and Leicester Square are within five minutes' walk. We have 108 bedrooms, including Premier Executive and Deluxe rooms. Unfortunately we don't have any dedicated meeting rooms at The Royal Trafalgar, but other Thistle hotels in London will be pleased to accommodate you for meetings and events, or if you're looking for a wedding venue. With The City on one side, Whitehall on the other, this is truly the centre of London. The Royal Trafalgar is the perfect base from which to discover the capital's shopping, sightseeing and culture.

The best thing about this hotel is its location- just around the corner from Trafalgar Sq. & The National Gallery. On the day I was to go home, I was able to run into the Nat. Gallery again and take a quick 20 min. run thru the priceless Impressionist galleries when it opened at 10AM. You'll not have many chances to look at Van Goghs and get on a trans-continental flight on the same day. Other than that, the hotel has recently gone thru an upgrade so it is all modern. The rooms are small but you're not going to spend much time in there at a hotel in the heart of the city.

Description
Not many London hotels can claim a place in literary history. But The Kingsley certainly can. Named after Charles Kingsley, author of the classics Westward Ho! and The Water Babies, it was once home to EM Forster, one of the famous 'Bloomsbury Group', who worked on A Room with a View while living here. And from The Kingsley, you'll have a wonderful perspective on the capital too. From the hotel, London landmarks like the British Museum, Covent Garden, Oxford Street, the leafy squares of Bloomsbury and the West End theatres are within easy walking distance. We have 129 bedrooms, including Deluxe and Executive rooms and Junior Suite. With seven meeting rooms, the largest seating 100 people theatre-style, and six syndicate rooms, The Kingsley is an ideal setting for business meetings and events; we're also a popular London wedding venue. London isn't the easiest place to bring a car, but there's parking available nearby at an additional charge. Whether you're in London for work or pleasure, The Kingsley's blend of contemporary comforts and Edwardian charm is definitely something to write home about.

Clean, modern hotel

  • Amy N.
  • 24 May 2012
This hotel was very nice. The staff was very helpful and friendly, they held our bags after we checked out for free until we could pick them up later in the evening. The room itself was also nice- big bed, good sized room, especially by London standards. The bathroom was super swanky with a fancy, modern shower head, though for all its fanciness it actually was not as effective as a normal shower head. Also had a heated towel rack, which is pretty awesome. Great location if you want to stay near the British Museum. Lots of little cafes and delis nearby, and also within short walking distance to Covent Garden (10-15 mins). It can be a bit noisy if you're on the back side, as there are some residences behind the building so occasionally there were people talking and playing music. It wasn't that bothersome though and I didn't notice it at night. The air conditioning wasn't great-- it cooled down the room a little, but was really noisy. Overall, though, this is a great hotel- clean, modern, good location near the British Museum. Would stay here again, though I do wish it were a bit cheaper.

Fantastic Stay!

  • The Poppa
  • 14 May 2012
The Kingsley by Thistle is perfectly located in the heart of the beautiful Covent Gardens section of London. The room I had was very well kept, and included everything I needed for a great stay. Room cleanliness was among the best that I have experienced. All staff that I interacted with were extremely courteous and very professional. The only critique I would offer is; if you are a light sleeper, try to stay away from the first floor rooms, as their proximity to the busy street may be a disruption to your beauty sleep. All-in-all, I would definitely stay at the Kinglsey again - even on the first floor.

Really loved the Rathbone. Located off the beaten path and surrounded by many great restaurants. They actually provide a 10% discount card to select restaurants in their "group". Hotel is extremely clean with friendly, professional service. Room was comfortable, slept like a baby. Only drawback was that they charged 15 pounds per day for Wifi.

this was my 2nd time here and it was just as expected. in a great location , walking distance to soho and theatreland. located a short 5 minute walk from googe underground station - it's easy to get to from LHR (if you're taking the tube). hotel is quiet and had everything that I needed. only bummer was wifi was pretty expensive at the hotel (15 pounds/day) and it was the only reliable wifi available - but performed well. might be a little more than hotels a bit further away, but the time and money saved from not having to use taxi's makes it break close to even. looking forward to my next visit to the UK and will stay here again. will definately stay here again

We stayed at the Thistle for two

  • Lynn
  • 21 Mar 2011
We stayed at the Thistle for two nights. Overall we were happy with the hotel. Rooms were adequate and there was a good choice at breakfast which was priced well. My only complaint was when we came back to the hotel at 11pm on the saturday night after a long day out in London we wanted to order a sandwich. The menu was fairly extensive and had many items which stated they were available 24 hrs a day. We chose a Tuna sandwich only to be told that only ham or cheese were available as the kitchen had closed and we would be better off to go outside for food as there was more choice. Other than this incident a very enjoyable stay.

An absolutely first rate stay at a first rate hotel. Perhaps the most outstanding feature is the ability of the staff to make everyone feel completely comfortable. I am unfortunately not in the habit of staying in hotels in this price range on a regular basis but as a special treat it was well worth it. Whether dining in the Savoy Grill, having cocktails in the American Bar or simply being shown to our room, the staff made my wife and I feel completely at home. I may have to wait for the kids to graduate from college before I go again but I know that I will be looking forward to it.

Quiet, A/C works perfectly, service unobtrusive but excellent. The location was perfect, since I was interested in joining as many walking tours as possible and the location so near four tube lines was extremely convenient. They reserved a car and driver to and from the airport for me,which was another great convenience. Whitehall Gardens directly behind the hotel was looking splendid, Houses of Parliament and Trafalgar Square easy walking distance.

Perfect location. Staff is incredible. We got the package with breakfast, which was a lovely start to every day. Hotel was being refurbished so our rooms were newly decorated and we received a discount. That being said, our group stayed in three rooms for over a week, and we agreed the rooms are not suited for people staying for more than a few days. There were six permanent hangers in the closet and one drawer for clothing. No dresser and no drawers in bathroom or night stands. We understand European hotels are usually smaller than in the US, but the lack of storage space contributed to a feeling of cutter, even with minimal packers like us.

Great Hotel, Great Area

  • LSM
  • 18 May 2011
As of May 2011 Leicester Square was completely torn up... not the W's fault, but a bummer none the less. Still, the hotel rooms were absolutely quiet; even with one of the most happening night clubs in the area on the first floor. Guests show their keys in the evenings and jet past the line that forms on the sidewalk to get in. The room itself was modern and comfortable, but the best thing was the hotel locale. It's a winner and I'll stay there again.

Perfect location and very nice hotel

  • lirick
  • 20 May 2012
My wife and I agree that this hotel is a perfect location. I was concerned about the price, but after doing research, it was a fair and reasonable rate. It is an old, historic hotel they have upgraded and improved. The bath included a lavatory, commode, tub and shower with heated towel rack. The towels were big enough to wrap-up in! The bed was a bit short for me... I'm over 6 foot, but I survived. The staff was nice, friendly and helpful. We ordered ice from room service every day and the man who brought it was very nice and professional. The concierge helped with our bags and helped us into our taxi. He was very gracious. The hotel is located adjacent to the Charing Cross Underground subway and this was one of the niceties at this hotel. Being located about a block from Trafalgar Square (the center of the city) helps too. Candles are placed on the stairs in the evening giving the entire hotel a very romantic feel. We highly recommend this hotel for a memorable stay!

THis hotel is right on Leicester

  • Martin
  • 13 Aug 2009
THis hotel is right on Leicester Square so makes an ideal location for all West End theatres. The hotel itself was a little disappointing but given we were there for one night only it didn't matter that much. The corridors were very dark and while the room was clean and tidy the decor was predominantly brown and dark. Sticky tape holding in batteries on the remote control didn't suggest attention to detail was high on the agenda. Service was a little slow. Over 20 minutes for a bucket of ice was quite a while to wait. I would stay here again if in London for one night but I wouldn't spend much longer than a couple of nights here.

Sauberes, freundliches Hotel, nettes, hilfsbereites Personal.

Great weekend break

  • Myottnutter
  • 13 Apr 2012
Chosen for its location, not haviing stayed there before, this hotel was excellent. Location cannot be bettered, so much to see and do within a short walk. Room decor, comfort, cleanliness were better than some boutique places I have stayed at. Ours was on the front overlooking Northumberland Ave. It was not noisy despite it being a very busy weekend. We are not corporate members just ordinary public, but that didnt make a differnce to our reception. There is a wonderful foyer and bar/restuarant. The only disappointment was contintental breakfast, with choice very basic and overpriced.

I had a wonderful experience staying at the Grange Blooms. It's around the corner from the British Museum and close to Covent Garden. There's easy access to the Underground and it's located in the nice clean and comfortable neighborhood of Bloomsbury. The internet access is a bit of a rip-off so look for an internet cafe if you want to check email. Otherwise, it's the perfect place to stay.

Lovely, comfortable, convenient

  • Erica
  • 12 Aug 2010
This place was lovely, bright, and very convenient: right on the Piccadilly line Tube from Heathrow, around the corner from the British Museum, and walking distance from all the theatre and dining we wanted (from Soho to Piccadilly Circus). The international staff were always very cordial and helpful. We didn't try the dining facilities, but we made good use of the complimentary in-room coffee service, as well as the pour-your-own, bill-your-room "courtesy bar" in the main lobby -- a nice touch. I hate to say there were things I "didn't like". But as far as noise, though the corridors were always silent, I do admit being woken up by morning phonecalls taking place in the rooms above AND next door. And as far as cleanliness, everything always looked clean, but the toilet in particular was clearly not; I would have cleaned it better myself given the tools. (We checked in Tuesday morning and stayed a week; on the Saturday evening I came back and said, "Wow, they actually cleaned this time!", but even then it wasn't quite quite.) However, these were small details and on the whole it was a quite satisfactory stay with excellent value.

We're very choosy about our Thistle Associate Hotels, and Bloomsbury Park, London is a perfect example. An elegant Edwardian hotel, Bloomsbury Park embodies all the values we hold dear at Thistle -excellent location and facilities, great service and a warm, welcoming atmosphere - and consistently achieves the high standards we set for ourselves. Within walking distance of the British Museum and Covent Garden - and, incidentally, our own Kingsley - Bloomsbury Park blends effortlessly into this elegant and historic part of west London. Inside, though, there's a thoroughly contemporary look and feel to the 95 bedrooms, fully-equipped meeting room, seating 35 theatre-style, and the recently-opened Cellar Bar. A place where our most discerning guests can feel immediately at home.
