Grange Fitzrovia is not great.

We were traveling on our honeymoon and asked for an upgrade and theyr refused. The first room they checked me into had a picture frame hanging on the wall with cracked glass and scotch-taped together. They also had a plug in the bathroom with scotchtape around it. The sink in the bathroom was not clean at all. When we asked to be moved to a different room they made us wait until the next day. The new room was fine, but the in-room safe was broken and had to be fixed and the beds did not have fitted sheets. Also, the carpets in both rooms were STAINED. We asked for a late check out on the day of our departure and they wanted to charge us 15 pounds an hour. A "4 star hotel" in the States would never get away with this sort of unaccommodating service.

Great Stay

Hotel staff was helpfull and friendly. Great location, decent price, and close to an underground station. The room is small by US standards but that seems to be par for European hotels. Good restraunts nearby. Would stay again.

OK But Not Great

Upon arrival at noon our room was not available, however they did offer us a "spacious" room on the basement level. We took it as we wanted to clean up a bit before heading out to the city. It was a little unsettling to go down a level, but we got used to it. We could hear some subway/underground rumblings, but not enough to wake us up. Carpet needed cleaning. Bathroom was wonderful with new big towels. Bed was a small double with a footboard that was uncomfortable for two tall people. When we returned to the room after being out all day, we always found our window to be wide open - with no screen. At first I thought we had been burglarized, but nothing was taken, and it happened every day. We did not use the restaurant in the hotel as there were many wonderful ones to choose from in the neighborhood. Front desk staff was fine and helpful.

As advertised

This hotel fit our needs, being close to BT Tower. Very nice staff who put us in an 'end of hall' room with extra space. Someone had violated the non-smoking rule, but that's not the hotel's fault. Great Portand Street tube station is 1 1/2 blocks which making getting around easy. We were advised by others not to accept rooms in the basement which apparently is just a little too close to the tube tunnel and noisy. We were not able to confirm the room selection in advance, but since the hotel was likely far from full, we had an upper floor. All in all, nice hotel, narrow hallways, OK breakfast, £10 for 24hrs of Internet (bit steep), and gracious staff.

Dining tip: Not Applicable

We enjoyed the Punjab Restaurant on Neal Street just north of Covent Garden. It's a great area to walk around to build and apetite, and the food is quite good.

Poor reservation skills

After 15 hours of flight when we got to the hotel. They had no records of our reservations. We showed them the copy of our reservation email from Orbitz with all the details information. They told us that Orbitz office is closed and they have to research it. They asked us to come back in couple of hours. That was rediculous and a lie because Orbitz is 24 hours. Their computer room is so tiny and hot and they charge for it too. That was terribly cheap when they charge so much for the room. The staff are not knowledgeable at all. We asked them for the closest tourist information and they didn't know or places to see. Their staff were basiclly useless.
