Definitely NOT a 4 star hotel

This was definitely NOT a 4 star hotel. Felt more like a 2 star hotel. The staff at the front desk hung up on my callers or did not put calls through. They also blocked me from making outgoing calls and took about an hour to fix the situation. And this was after I called several times to ask for help. One member of staff does several jobs e.g concierge was also waiter, IT person, house keeping etc. My package did not have wifi but for the type of service they have wifi should be free. The concierge team was great for the most part and very helpful when it came to booking trips and tours. The front desk staff didn't seem to understand their job. The staff were quite rude as we sat in the 24/7 lounge and seemed to want us to leave so they could sleep. However I liked the location of the hotel. Was very close to Victoria Station and several tourist sites. The bathroom was tiny and had half a shower glass so water from the shower would fall onto the floor while showering. Bedding was musty and didnt seem like it had been washed in a while. Definitely too expensive and I will not be returning to the Grange in the forseeable future

Delightful hotel

The Grange Rochester was nicely decorated, in excellent condition, conveniently located, with a very friendly and helpful staff. Although our room was not large, by London standards it was quite adequate. A bus line ran in front of the hotel, but it was also very easy to walk to many areas, including Buckingham Palace. The hotel is on the historic register, so they are not able to air condition, so I'm not sure what a summer visit would be like. We were there in October so there was no problem. Our only complaint was the price of breakfast in the hotel, if it's not included in your room rate, but there were many cafes nearby. I also was disappointed at the fee for wifi. All in all, I would highly recommend this hotel.

Awesome location!

The staff was friendly. There was food on site. I could walk to the Thames or to Victoria Station in five minutes. The room was small, but the view outside my window was Westminster Cathedral and the bathroom was huge!

Nightlife tip: Long walk from hotel

If you're in London on the last Monday of the month, I almost died of laughter at the Comedy Shop (near Picadilly Circus and China Town, take the tube or a bus). The last Monday of the month is amateur night, but my stomach hurt so badly afterwards from laughing.

No A/C and the staff is not familiar with the area

The hotel is charming. It is in an old building with a lot of the older touches that make it very charming. However, there is no air conditioning. If you plan to stay in the summer you will likely regret it. The staff was not that familiar with the area the hotel is located and was not able to help with tourist activities. The room was clean and the hotel and a nice appearance. Be very careful about using the phone! A toll free call that lasted roughly 15 minutes cost roughly $130 (82 pounds sterling).

So So

Good location quick walk to Victoria Station. Rooms were average for their age. Bell staff were excellent, front desk staff medicore. No air conditioning in room which on a hot summer day could be a problem, there was a fan in closet. Great italian restaurant a couple of blocks away on way to station would highly recommend.

Buckingham Palace is walkable from hotel, for all other attractions would recommend using the underground. Wicked and Billy Elliot stage shows both showing in theatres right by Victoria staion if you're looking to see a show.

My review of Grange Rochester

I thought this hotel was quite nice. Clean, though small, rooms and in a quiet area. I thought it was going to be slightly more central in location (for some reason I got it in my head we would be overlooking Buckingham Palace), but as it was only for one night, it was fine. On returning to London I would recommend something closer to Trafalgar Square.

Great price

The room was twice as large as any I've stayed in Europe. It had twin beds and was elegantly and comfortably furnished with a large en suite bathroom. The room was on the basement level, but had lots of light as it was open to a garden with french doors and a wall of large windows. The garden looked out on Vincent Square in central London. There were lots of shops and restaurants nearby and Victoria tube station is 500 meters away. There is an Express train leaving Victoria station to Gatwick Airport and easy tube connections to Heathrow.
