Great Location
If you want to be within walking distance of Kensington Palace/Garden, Hyde Park, the V&A and Natural History Museums, and the Royal Albert Hall, this is as good a location as it gets. The Gloucester Road tube station is right around the corner from the hotel on the Piccadilly, Circle, and District Lines so you can get anywhere very easily, including the cheapest way to and from Heathrow (taxi = 60 GBP vs. 7 GBP tube fare). There are numerous restaurants, pubs, bakeries, grocery stores, and shops in the neighborhood. Also, Kensington High Street shopping (e.g., Harrods) just a tube stop away (or a bit further walk). Hotel internet access is not included and is expensive. Also, no breakfast included and no frig in the room.

Eating out in London is very expensive. Pick one meal out (full English breakfast, fish 'n chips lunch, or dinner) and use the grocery store to cover the rest of your meals.

Clean and comfortable!
Very clean and comfortable. We booked through a hotel/flight package and it was a great value! We loved or stay. Hotel was close to the underground station and was very easy to get wherever we wanted to go.

Excellent location! Room was fine, nothing special, but very clean. Staff was fine, very professional. Skip the hotel breakfast - way too expensive and watch out for VERY expensive internet connection.

Small but well designed
The standard room is on the small side. We had to change the room when we checked in to get a better arranged room that gives some space (or the illusion of!). But I think this is comparable to any London hotels though. The room was well furnished and had great beds and pillows. It also had heated tiles in the bathroom, that was a first for me. It's close to the South Kensington tube station, but in cold weather you'd wish it's closer. I stayed at the Millennium next to Gloucester on my previous trip and missed the convenience of staying right next to the underground station. The bar is good and the staff is friendly. It's nice that the lobby has a bunch of fireplaces to sit next to. Overall I'm satisfied with this hotel, but if you have a lot of luggage and 2 people are staying, it feels cramped.

Recently renovated
We stayed for four nights in early August 2011. It was obvious that the interior has recently been updated, fresh carpet, paint, new furniture. It was nice and comfortable. The airconditioning worked well. The bath was freshly updated. It is only a five minute walk to the Glouster Road tube station and about a fifteen minute walk to the Victoria and Albert museum. I'd go back again.

Our non-trip
Actually, we never made it as our flight was repeatedly canceled into Heathrow due to snow! However, we have stayed at this hotel 3 times before and found it clean and well run. However, the hotel rooms are not as spacious as those in the U.S.

Posh-ing for less
We are boutique-hotel lovers, and for our first time in London (Dec. 2008) we wanted to do the best which means it's all about the location. S.Kensington is the most upscale residential neighborhood in London, very similar to the Upper East Side in NYC. Naturally, the only difference is that you are in London and you don't expect to see a high rise hotel around the corner. But there is one.. and it was ridiculously cheap in a vac.package during Christmas. i was hesitant at first but we took a chance, and after all it payed back big time. We loved the room (small but cozy), 5 star level quietness and cleanness of it was a surprising bonus. Gloucester Street is such a quaint place with a few pubs, cafes, restaurants spread on and around it. If you are fine with a high rise it is a great hotel for you! IF not, then still it serves you right in many ways except for the regular crowd at the lobby. (mostly pilots and hostesses) Bright and updated looks all over, though.

Money-saving tip:
Short walk from hotel
TIPS: 1) Every morning you can get a free croissant by ordering either a coffee or tea at Caffe Forum which is less than a block of walk from the tube station. Simple but friendly seating available inside and outside that will give you that local feeling. 2) There is an INTERNET CAFE right across the street from this place for your info!! 3) Other places of interest: A few banks around the area, Tesco (super market), Paul, even a Starbucks & Burger King (for emergency only!), newspaper/magazine stand, dry cleaner are all in this short stretch of walk. 4) Historical BOOKSHOP: Gloucester Road Bookshop is an old but beautiful bookstore with lots of history-old stuff, if you are a bookworm , you will love this place.

Only OK
We only stayed at this location for one night of our two week trip, but it was the least favored of all our places. The TV and refrigerator were both broke, but the staff was timely and friendly with repairs. Our room was located next to the tube and was very noisy until the tube shut down, then we had noisy people at three in the morning. Friends we were with stayed at this hotel for a week and did not have a similar experience. Perhaps it was because of our one night stay. Location was great, but I preferred the flat we rented three blocks away earlier in the week.

Grab the tube to Picadilly Circle and see Les Miz at the Queen's Theater. Best production of it I have seen. Note that there are no plays on Sunday evening.
