Overnight getaway

Beautiful hotel with friendly staff and lovely rooms that I felt had a modern but retro feel. Very much enjoyed my stay and would do it again. Reasonably short walk to the London Overground however the surrounding area was a little dodgy. I would consider it to be a bit pricy but the quality of the hotel was great. We really appreciated the complimentary late check out as well.

A relaxing place to stay, a bit off the beaten track

This hotel takes some finding, but is a peaceful place to stay in London, if you don't mind being a short trek from the centre. My bedroom was very comfortable, with all mod cons, but most things in the hotel are a bit dark and could do with a touch of colour. Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was OK, but marred by one of my pet hates - stone cold plates for the cooked breakfast.

Very good hotel, but a bit out the way

I booked the hotel for a two night stay for our 10-yr wedding anniversary. We are in our 30's. Cost £255 (via third party) incl breakfast. This was a very good price having spent a while researching costs and other hotels in London. I don't hotel much but I have high standards! So, the hotel is very good but not perfect (what is??, unless you hotel in Dubai), hence 4 stars. I rang up two days before and requested a free upgrade, if they had one. On checking in, they had already upgraded us to an Executive Suite, which impressed me. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was excellent - a massive comfy bed, large TV, large sofa, very clean.....We had a river view which overlooked the helipad. We enjoyed watching the choppers come in and fortunately you could barely hear them (there are two lots of double glazing separated themselves in-between two foot of space). The windows therefore didn't open but air conditioning worked fine. When we first got into our room, the only problem was that there were no bath robes so we had to wait ages before they got delivered and before then going to the Spa (they advise changing in your room first). The Spa is very good with romantic mood lighting! Not for the Singles I suggest! There's a large Jacuzzi type pool, various showers, steam room, sauna and one other. Note - once you check out, they charge you £15 to use the pool - we therefore didn't. Breakfast was good which included continental style and full English in the restaurant. Kind of the usual with this type of hotel. There was always plenty of space to sit and you can eat outside along the Thames if you want. The main problem with this hotel is the location but you can't blame the staff for that. It is 13 mins walk from Clapham Junction - and that was taking the direct side roads in-between social housing estates. From Clapham, the easiest way into central London is NOT via London Overground as the train always goes sooooooo slowly. It's easier to get one stop to Clapham North, then a short walk (2 mins) to the Tube station. This may sound a pain, and it is. But we got used to it although when you've been out all day, it's is not the best to come to. There is a free shuttle provided by Verta to Sloane Square AND Clapham Junction (people carrier) at various times during the day but is a limited service and is only during office hours and not in the evening. This was good when we checked out and caught it to Clapham. A taxi from Clapham Junction to Verta cost £5-£7. Also, the front of Verta looks out onto a small industrial estate with Grundon wheelie bins lined up. A very strange set-up!! But once you're inside the hotel, then it's nice. Staff were always helpful so overall, a very good stay. Well recommended.

Plenty of WOW!

Amazing location, about fifteen-minute walk from Clapham Junction, on the river, next door to the Heliport! Great fun watching the comings and goings (it was Royal Ascot week!), but the noise wasn't a problem, obviously triple-glazed windows! Check-in was efficient and friendly. Large room, one wall was ceiling-to-floor windows overlooking the river; large bathroom, large tv, desk space, wardrobe with slippers and robes, safe and mini-bar. Spotlessly clean, crisp sheets and ORTHOPAEDIC PILLOWS!! which was brilliant! We had room service on the first night - efficient and yummy! Good range at breakfast buffet too. hadn't time to visit the spa though. Three complaints - the rainforest shower head was leaking from the side so only a dribble of water was heading in the right direction and we drenched the place trying to turn the shower head around. We informed staff on the first morning and were told the engineer would fix it, but we heard no more and it wasn't fixed. In fairness it seemed like the whole head needed to be replaced, but we managed with the dribbles of water. Second complaint - the piped music in the lift was dreadful and in the breakfast room was worse!! Too loud and too droning and repetitive! And finally it was a good walk from the train station and although the website said there was a courtesy coach to Sloane Square every day, we only found out when we were checking out that there was also a courtesy coach to Clapham Junction every day, doh!! All in all, a lovely place to stay, would recommend and would return!

Leave Clapham Junction station on Grant Road side, turn left and walk through the apartments and park, (bring an A-Z or Google Maps). This is a quicker route than turning right and using Falcon Road.

Great hotel!

I only stayed for one night but the hotel was great: fast-check in by professional and very nice staff, fantastic room - large, clean, modern with a superb bathroom (tv over bath!) - and although I paid for a basic double, I ended up with a riverview room, which was also great! Although it's not a central London location, there are some nice restaurants around and Westminster is only a short taxi ride away.

Not the best location

The biggest problem is the hotel location. If you don't intend spending time in Battersea, or you don't have your own car, getting to public transport is going to be a bit of a walk. The closest bus stop is about a block and a half away (or more depending on which direction you're going) and the underground is a good 30 min walk away. To get to the city from here requires 3 trains and a bus ride. To get to the airport will require the same. If you plan on staying here, bring transport.

Buy a day pass for the underground because of the amount of traveling you're going to do.
