good hostel alternative but nothing else

The pictures of this hotel are as measleading as they can possible get. The hotel is old and in poor condition. The rooms were extemely dirty (the firt they gave me had urine in the bathroom floor) and the carpets were filthy. The staff didn't do anything to accommodate my request (and I was just asking for a place that didnt' smell like a public bathroom) and it's full of tourists who have no idea what they are doing. I travel for a living and this definiitely ranks as one of my top bad experiences. The location is great though. Makes it much easier to stay out as long as possible

I can't reccomend it

The superior room that we had at the Lancaster was a fairly average-sized hotel room for the price. When we asked for two beds, though, we were given only one. The bed itself was about as uncomfortable as it could have been (I could feel the springs digging into my back). You cannot get the news or weather on the television. Internet access - for which we paid seventeen pounds a day for!! - was an absolute joke! We kept on getting kicked off and the signal was weak when we were connected. The employee in the Business Office was not as friendly as I would have expected at a hotel of this supposed caliber. The only really exceptional aspect was the room service. Those staff members were always friendly, and the food was divine! My suggestion: go to lunch or dinner at one of the hotel restaurants, but don't stay the night.

Sightseeing of London

This location is wonderful, tube right around the corner. We had a fire alarm on Sun. morn.7:30am staff lead us down back stairs to 1st. floor. Not the ground floor. We were told to wait there. No one came to inform us of the condition, we stood around in our nite clothes, I tracked a member of staff and asked what we should do, was told the elevators were now working and we could go back to our rooms. We would still be standing there if I hadn't found her. I did see the Manager and told him, he did apoligize..and said he would look into it. Did have a problem getting facecloths, slippers, & wine glasses. Maid would take and not replace. So had to call 5-6 times. One day maid didn't clean our room until we returned 4:30pm and had to request service. My calls were taken care of within a matter of minutes so all and all I was happy. The reception desk had very helpful staff.

LANCASTER HOTEL. PRICY NICE HOTEL.

London is expensive, we know, but this hotel is way too expensive for the service they provide. And yes, the reviews are correct, they give you the parking lot views rooms. The hotel was full by the time I arrived (convention held) and my room was ready by 2PM; we moved into a different room, little bit cleaner and neat (cieling painted, no stains, etc) The tub drain never stopped making noises, hard to sleep even with door closed. The AC is turned off by housekeeping every day. Hotel is a mere 3 stars, and no amenities, no pool, no gym, no sauna, no free internet, no business center... Restaurant prices medium to high like any other hotel. Service OK, expected more for the type of hotel and for being in London. It compares to a Courtyard or one of those low profile Marriott hotels. The bell boy does not wear gloves, the pic is just to impress, LOL!!!

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

A quarter a block from the hotel, the Bathurst Cafe is a great place to have brakfast or coffe with free WIFI and delicious food, at reasonable prices, and they open form 7 to 11pm. The indian restaurant accross the cafe, was excellent and the price so cheap that we extra tipped (30%) to compensate.

Lancaster London

The room mini bar refrigerator was broken and they said they would fix it, but never did. Concierge gave us wrong information about events like changing of the guard. We went there and he had the days wrong. Concierge was not helpful in securing tickets to plays. We asked him to check when we arrived if tickets were available for any nights for our stay, but he only checked for that day we asked. They said they would check again, but we never heard from them again, so I doubt they did. They wanted about $30 dollar per ticket service charge for tickets to another play that we finally were able to get easily ourselves. We booked a tour but had to pay cash because they wouldn't charge it to the room and their credit card machine was broken. The room was clean, but they didn't always replenish used coffee or all the towels, but did clean daily. Nice room and bathroom overall. There was easy access to the Underground and Paddington Station. Not much of interest in terms of shops or restaurants near the hotel. Nice neighborhood overall. The staff was generally very pleasant and friendly.

average, not worth 4 stars

We had a nice stay, but the room was nothing special and especially the bathroom was dissapointing. It was very very small, and definitely not 4-star quality. The location of the hotel and the staff were absolutely fine, but this hotel needs some work!

Location is it

Overall, average. Here are some things that need work. All rooms should reflect 4 star rating, that's what you pay extra for. We were in 705 and found the room a bit worn and outdated. Carpet was very dirty looking. Bathroom was very small and had mold and cracking paint in the corner of the tub. On the positive the mattress was comfortable, mini bar fridge was nice to use for groceries, location is great for tube use and staff is friendly. Maid service was good except for the one who helped herself to my perfume on the last night. Despite the hotel issues, we had a great time in London.
