London Weekend

Everything was on par with what I expect from a Marriott hotel. The rooms were nice and the bathroom was excellent. The exterior of the building was a little old and ion need of updating but it didn't detract from the overall experience. The location was excellent. We were close to enough to central London to sight see but for enough away to experience places away from the tourist areas. It was also close to a train station so we were able to experience riding the undergound. The hotel staff was great. They took the time to answer any and all questions. The ability to exchange currency onsite was helpful. My only complaint is breakfast should be included with the room rate.

Our second stay in this hotel.

A little outside the center of London, but not a disadvantage because of convenience to Swiss Cottage Tube Station, safe neighborhood, and budget friendly restuarants within walking distance (Subway, KFC, McD's). We traveled with our adult daughter and were able to share a room, many other London hotels will not allow three in a room. Room was large, clean and comfortable. Staff was very helpful, arranging an early morning cab, booking a walking tour, etc. Was a great home base for our London area sightseeing. Would certainly stay here on our next London visit.

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

Many budget friendly places to eat within walking distance. Few minutes walk to tube station will get you anywhere in the London, including train stations if you're venturing a little further.

Below Average from Marriott

We checked into the hotel and were given a non-smoking room but upon entering the room it clearly smelled of smoke and there was an ashtray on an end table. The windows were wide open even though it was a cold, rainy day. It clearly wasn't helping with the stench. Back down to the lobby only to have the staff argue with us that the room was a non-smoking room and therefore it couldn't possibly smell of smoke. After several minutes continuously explaining the problem, they finally gave us another room. Never have we experienced hotel staff arguing with their clients. The sofa bed that our children slept on had thin sheets and a blanket that had seen better days. When the blanket has holes and is pilled, it is time to invest in new linens. Once the sofa bed was pulled out, the room became quite cramped. Not a great design. The queen size bed also had sheets that were past their prime and the mattress was like sleeping on a board. Clearly a very uncomfortable bed. The bathroom was quite large and extremely nice given the state of the rest of the room. We ordered room service late one evening and it arrived before the quoted time. It was still hot and quite delicious. We also ate in the hotel's brasserie one evening as recommended upon check-in. Service was extremely slow and our waitress kept disappearing for long periods of time. The table next to us had several of the staff fawning over them so there obviously was a problem before we arrived. Given the long wait to order and receive drinks and food, it did prove to be a decent, average meal...or maybe we were just exhausted from our long day of sightseeing. Overall we were not impressed with this Marriott property. During our week long trip, this was the third Marriott property and the most expensive. The other properties all had nice linens, blankets and feather beds, 2 queen size beds in the room, no sofa bed, larger rooms with room to move around.

Good location

Great experience except for some confusion at the start. Although we had specifically requested a non-smoking room, somehow this was transmitted as a request for a smoking room and there were no non-smoking rooms available for a change on the first night. [...]

Great Hotel

This is one of the best hotels we have ever stayed in. The service was outstanding. The beds were some of the most confortable I have ever slept on. I wish I would have asked them for the manufacturer as I would like to buy them for my house. The pool, suana, and steam room were great and my grand daughter and I use them frequently. Room service was great and fast. In fact they have a policy that if you order breakfast and it is more than 15 minutes late it is on them. We did order once and they were late and they did not charge us for the meal. All in all our experience was way better than we expected.
