This hotel was very basic, which was exactly what I needed as a single traveler expecting to spend minimal time in the room. The location close to Paddington Station was perfect - so close! The room was tiny, but I already expected that from reading other reviews. I didn't get up and about early enough to sample the breakfast so I can't comment on that. Overall the hotel was exactly as advertised and fit my needs well. The only additional thing I would've appreciated is free wi-fi.

Weekend in London
The hotel is fine. I chose it for the price and the location. The location is near Paddington station with easy walking access to the Tube and Heathrow Express to the airport. I generally ride the Tube to get anywhere. As is typical for hotels in this area the room is small but functional.

The room is very small - so is the bathroom. But it's London, get over it. It would have been nice to have some storage space (there was very little); the suitcases stayed open on the floor. The staff was very nice. The breakfast isn't much but then again, who really needs more than toast and weak squash for breakfast. Overall the room was worth the price in a neighborhood that was convenient to transportation sites.

Dining tip:
Short walk from hotel
We enjoyed Micky's Fish bar (just around the corner and down the street). The place is busy; you can eat there or take it away; the prices were good. And it's a slice of "real London" (run by middle eastern guys who were very friendly and willing to accomodate us - even if all we wanted was a cold can of Pepsi).

Just barely passable
the best part of this hotel is its location to paddington rail and tube station. The room was very small and the bathroom literally had 1 square yard of usable space aside from the toilet and shower, The staff were unfriendly and didn't care about the concerns raised regarding the cleaniliness of the bed covering, size of rooms. The free breakfast is laughable; burnt toast, tea, hard boiled egg and cheese. Oh and there was some orange-ish colored liquid not sure what that was supposed to be but tasted horrible. I suggest finding somewhere else if you can.

Reasonable Price for a good location
I tend to travel a lot abroad. Usually I need a good but cheap hotel close to Paddington and Marble Arch for train and bus transfers. This hotel was perfect. No fuss, just a good nights sleep and I'm on my way.

decent, quiet stay
Decent location, being within 10 minutes from Edgware road and Paddington station (tube/national rail). You can get to most tube stations in 2 tube rides. The room was small, but clean, quiet and comfortable, and the staff was professional - not terribly flexible, but professional. I must confess this is my first stay in a european hotel, and compared to a US hotel it only lacked a washcloth, bath soap, and shampoo.

Great Hotel
The Orchard was clean and quite nice. The staff were very friendly and helpful! The room was big for a European hotel and was well furnished. The hotel is a ten minute walk from Paddington station - so very convenient if flying in from Heathrow (the Heathrow express drops you off at Paddington) and it's very easy to get around London from there using the Tube. It's not far from Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens too. I would definitely there again! The only thing that was a little disappointing was that you had to pay for wifi if you wanted to use it in the room, but there are plenty of cafes in the area who have free wifi....

Clean but noisy
The staff is very kind, but the hotel is extremely noisy during morning and afternoon due to improvement works in process. Please warn in advance what is going on in the hotel, specially because is really hard to stay in your room with a hammer hitting in the wall !!!

Rude Owner / Broken Toilet / Cramped Room. Stay away from here.
The woman owner at the front desk was extremely rude and unprofessional. The toilet in the room didn't flush, and the room itself was the size of a shoe box. The TV was the size of my palm (and I don't have particularly big hands). When I asked for a refund to stay somewhere else after seeing the condition of the room, I was greeted with a series of rude remarks and arguments from the owner. As I pointed out that this was listed as a 3 star hotel online, she promptly told me that the UK has no star system and that she had picked the 3 star rating herself to describe the hotel. If you are used to the level of friendliness and respect generally found in the hospitality industry, expect none of that here. I would highly recommend staying away from this place if you value your experience in London.
