Overbooked

Even though I had prepaid for this hotel through a travel company, it was overbooked. They moved me to another hotel that was not in neighborhood where I needed to be. They paid for the taxis to get me back and forth but it was still a huge inconvenience. They should not accept reservations and payments when a room is not available!

Disappointing

The staff informed us of the incorrect starting time for the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace which wasted our time. But the worst was two nights of no hot water for showers and the staff was not even apologetic!

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

Buy a day pass for the tube (subway) for unlimited use for 24 hours. Also, the Original London Bus Tour is great. You and hop-off and hop-on at all of the destinations on the route. Plus, it includes a free 30 min. cruise on the Thames!

Good location, but...

If you need to be at Paddington station for some kind of connection, then this location is very good. Paddington is an easy walk, even with suitcases. The hotel itself, though fairly clean, has extremely small rooms (think college dorm room), and was extremely noisy. Noise came from other people staying in the hotel; the elevator; and most notably, the street. I will look for another hotel next time.

Great for family

We wanted a place in London that fit a family of 4. Most places had a limit of 3, which would have meant we would have had to get 2 rooms. The Royal Eagle had a lovely, large room with enough space for 4. Granted, one of the "beds" was a pull-out couch (not always the most comfortable sleeping surface). But it was fine for a few nights, and we saved by not having to get 2 rooms. The building was nice and close to a major train and subway station, so getting around day or night was very convenient!

Nice place!

The room was small, but very nice. It was very clean, and there is a restaurant (which I did not frequent). The staff was helpful. I asked for a wake up call which didn't occur, but when I checked, the telephone was unplugged so check that when you first arrive in the room. A hotpot with coffee and tea is provided, no blow dryer.

very bad

on the first night we were put into an attic room (room number 519)with no fire exit and if one did not stand in the very centre of the room they would hit the celing with their head. I asked for a change immediatley but had to wait until the next day to get a change of room. The lift was tiny the bar only opened for a few hours in the evening and when I asked for a cup of coffee in reception I was advised to use the tea/ coffee facilities in my room. I also asked for an access code for my laptop as i needed to check on some work at home and I was told that a charge of £5.00 per hour would have to be paid, I explained that I only needed 5 minutes but I was then told to go to an internet cafe. I would never again use this establishment to stay in London as every day I heard someone with a complaint at the reception desk.
