The hotel is ideal for all travellers on a tight budget due to its location and public areas which are full of character. (0708RPL) The exterior is typical of other 1950s town buildings in predominantly red brick with a few subtle Art Deco touches. The hotel is situated close to Russell Square in Bloomsbury, just a short walk from Euston and King’s Cross mainline and underground stations. Also within walking distance are London's Theatreland and the British Museum.

Tavistock Rooms

Guest Rooms
The rooms are small on average and simply decorated using light colours and simple furniture. Both the rooms and the bathrooms are in fair condition.

Find Somewhere Else

The mouse running across the bar was the final straw for me. It's in a decent part of London, but there are other hotels in the area I'll probably check out next time.

Simple room for a good price.

Great corner room with a view of the square, plenty of space. Had to get used to turning on the dressing table lights from the switch at the entryway—but then we got a lighted mirror! The bed was comfortable; linens looked and felt like brand new. The bathroom offered tub and shower and we found both satisfactory. You do want to use the lift to the left of reception. The one in the center of the lobby, while larger and equipped with a pleasant voice, is inexplicably slow. Staff at the concierge desk was great. We even got the answers we needed about service times at the Abbey. Made up for the clerk at reception who did not seem happy in this particular line of work. This is a fine hotel in decline. What appears to have been the dining room at one time is now open for breakfast only. There is a bar, but the "Lounge" (not sure of the distinction} was behind locked doors. Accessible through the lobby is a "wine bar" offering a small menu with Mediterranean influence in a diner like atmosphere. It was not evident whether this enterprise was part of the Hotel or separate. Room service was offered although we did not avail ourselves. Our plan included continental breakfast, but the complete meal buffet including hot dishes cost an additional £4.50. Evidently this varies according to your plan. If you have the appetite for a full meal between 7 and 10 AM, the buffet is well worth it. This location is served by four bus routes, with several more within two blocks, most of which have 24 hour service. There is also a tube entrance within four blocks.

Money-saving tip: Not Applicable

Buy an Oyster card, rechargeable bus pass, online. Easier than producing change and more economical than paying as you go. WAY more economical than cabs and you get a great view from the top deck of the bus.

Very good value for central London

Very good value for central London especially for relatively spacious accomodation. The "art-deco" theme of the common areas is appealing. One suggestion would be that the hotel, as with others in the Imperial group, subscribe to the excellent "Freeview" TV channels with its wide-ranging selection of channels and digital radio stations.

Clean room and facilities. Included

Clean room and facilities. Included breakfast was not very good, pay the extra couple of pounds and upgrade to their full breakfast menu. You must pay the server before you sit down. Otherwise location was great and the service was satisfactory.

1. My room was a little bigger

1. My room was a little bigger than normal London hotel rooms 2. I can hear people talking/noises from neighbouring rooms 3. Facilities are very basic - only soaps, no shampoos, not enough clothes hangers 4. WiFi in lobby is the only Internet access point - I have to carry my laptop to the lobby a few times a day to check my emails 5. Receptionists attitude is indifferent - At least two receptionists on different shifts had no interest answering guests' questions
