Location Location Location

This hotel is ideally situated at the heart of Bloomsbury for the British Museum and University of London. It is a short walk from Russell Square tube station, less than ten minutes to the West End and 40 minutes to Heathrow. It is also walking distance to Euston, St Pancras (Eurostar) and King;s Cross mainline stations. It is also quiet at night as it is next to Russell Square gardens, (where we saw a fox!) The rooms have high ceilings and feel roomy. My only criticism is the size of the TV (small) and the skimping on the little luxuries. However, it was good value for money as long as you don't have breakfast which was ridiculously expensive (there are plenty of nearby cafes for this) and certainly classier than the "motel".

There is a nearby Tesco Express open until 23.00 where you can buy everything you need for breakfast, lunch or that bottle of wine in your room!

Basic but satisfactory

The staff was incredibly friendly upon arrival. However, the rooms, while cozy, left little privacy for the non-romantic travel partners. I think shower curtains would be a wonderful addition. Still, at the end of the day, it was a warm, clean place to which to return from a long day of touristing. Good value for area.

Nice big room with ensuite shower

Nice big room with ensuite shower and hand basin, but no toilet. Advertised as 'shared bathroom' so I was pleased. I would call the price average or bad, but this was a lot cheaper than anything else I saw advertised in this part of London. Commendation for being one of the few places I've stayed to provide a decent amount of milk for the tea/coffee.

The lancaster

This location is located close to Russel square not far from the tube, location was in a nice quiet area so not too much traffic, the room i had didnt include breakfast and when booking i had booked a double but i only got a single. there was a broken window in the room and stains on the carpet, the bathrooms were shared bathrooms and the inroom shower was quite small, all in all for the price i was satisfied but that was because it was new years eve and there was nothing affordable available anywhere else. the staff were the crown jewel. The staff were the most helpful i have ever had in all my travels and i travel about 4 times yearly around the world. very polite, very honest, very helpful, very knowledgeable, very outgoing. they really are the reason why i stayed there after seeing the quality of the location. Thanks guys you were the best.

Well ... its sort of OK

I arrived to find it was a walk-up to the room on the 2nd floor (which means the third floor in US terms). The room was very tiny although it did have a shower and a sink (no toilet). The people were nice but the full breakfast cost 18 pounds (about $32) which is outrageous. The only internet was in the lobby/registration area and only one person at a time could use it. In short it was not a great hotel for business travelers.

Other restaurants are near the hotel and there is even a Subway, of all things, so if you do have kids or just want a much less expesive alternative to the hotel b'fast, go there

Perhaps I missed this on the website,

Perhaps I missed this on the website, but the hotel does not have an elevator (lift) and as I had a third floor room, I wound up doing a good bit of stair climbing, carrying bags initially. The bedroom was excellent, but toilets were down the hall, not exactly what I expected for a three-star hotel.

Friendly, helpful staff & modern rooms

The staff was VERY friendly and helpful, the room was modern, clean and comfortable. The only thing I didn't like was the the toilet was shared and down the hallway (though the shower and sink were in the room), but the rest of the experience made up for it. It was in a very nice neighborhood and very convenient to the West End, two underground stations and the St. Pancras train station. The price was very affordable and this was the best hotel I stayed at for this price. I would not hesitate to stay here again.
