The Mandeville: Honest Pros and cons

Pros: Location is good (close to Bond Street Underground Station, Hyde Park, restaurants, shopping) Free WiFi in lobby Friendly Staff Cons: The hotel is currently right next to a very active construction site (we were just there, Oct 3-9, '10) and every morning (including Saturday) the workers would arrive at 7am and loud work would begin by 8:15am. No Fitness Room or Pool on site *Note: the reason I would NOT recommend this hotel for the next few months at least is that you will NOT get any sleep due to the construction (and add that on to the jetlag you will be experiencing).

Shopping tip: Short walk from hotel

Shopping is right down the street - and that goes for clothing, shoes, etc. but also for food. Selfridge & Co and Marks & Spencer are about 4 blocks away so you can buy some stuff for your fridge.

Charming!

The front desk staff were fine, but the doormen and the concierge were top notch! There are many great restaurants nearby for a cozy breakfast, and at a much more affordable price! This hotel is in a great area where getting around the city is a breeze! However, if you book this hotel be certain to request a room away from the constuction if you wish to sleep later than 8:00am.

Great Location, Great Service

As typical for London, the rooms were not very large, but great mattress, A/C. Fairly limited free TV options, but you're in London; what are you doing watching TV? Da Vigne is the bar, and is right up there as far as the craft cocktail movement is concerned. Only a block from the Bond Street Underground station, and less than a mile walk from Regents Park. Did not try the restaurant (except for breakfast), but there are lots of small restaurants nearby and the concierges are very helpful if you have any specific ideas.

Typical European Hotel....

The hotel was in a great location just blocks away from the Bond tube stations and plenty of restaurants. I had a superior single which is about 100 sq ft room. Small but functional. Room was clean and had all the amenities except hair dryer. Mini bar, Movies, internet available at a high price. Staff was pretentious but helpful. Beware off additional services such as a 3 pound per day optional accomodation charge.

Pleasant Surprise

The staff was very open and friendly. The rooms were always very well cared for. Only draw back was the limited number of TV channels and the cost of using the TV for internet access.

[...]

Deluxe double is bigger than a typical London hotel. Need a detailed street map to find, but near Oxford Street buses and shopping and Bond Street Tube. Undisclosed but optional surcharge for staff gratuties fund. Very expensive phone prices and internet access unless use own laptop in lobby.

Not what it seems

The hotel staff was nice, however they could not compensate for the huge construction that was going on right next door!! It was shameful to offer a discount on a hotel just because of construction. I was deeply disappointed. I would still recommend the hotel however ALWAYS check if there is any construction or maintenance going on. I've learned my lesson.

Comfortable

the hotel was very nice, very clean and i felt very safe staying there as a woman traveling alone. however be prepared for a cost to just about anything you would like above and beyond a bed and bath. there is a 3 pound a day fee charged for them servicing your room. Door men were great though! Very friendly and always with smiles.
