Quietly located a short distance from the Barbican, St Paul's, Holborn and The Tate Modern, the only remaining early houses in St Peter's Lane have been repaired and extended to create the delightful small hotel.
Inside, the Rookery is all period charm. Polished wood panelling, stone flagged floors, open fires and genuine antique furniture give the place a warm, homely atmosphere - more private club than hotel.

Pleasant and a great area
I enjoyed everything about the hotel. It's a small hotel so if you want a gym and a restaurant then look elsewhere. On the other hand you are surrounded by restaurants so it should be more of an opportunity than a problem. My only problem was that I had too little time to enjoy the hotel and the area before it was time to go home

So close yet so far
The Rookery, you might as well call it The Crook-ery. First I will start with the good, our room was spectacular! Old English heaven, bathroom was amazing I want that in my dream house. Ok so the food....there was not proper room service, a beacon sandwich is what your offered, that so tacky. Oh my lord the mini bar, is not just in the bar, anything in the room that is not furniture or nailed down is pretty much mini bar, so you cant expect complimentary anything. it cost us a dodgy £35 for small water, small wine and 4 small pots of nuts. It was our anniversary and they mega failed. So disappointing. Not to mention the concierge to describe he had ginger-blonde hair glasses and i'm pretty sure was gay. If you meet him beware, the rudest man on the planet. When we left I didn't want to say goodbye, simply because of how rude he was. I have no time for that. But as we left he kept saying good bye, good bye, good bye, good bye, good bye, good bye. Do you see how rude that is? so depressing. never again :-(

Fantastic Ambience and Service
Everything about this hotel is elegant and charming. From the extremely courteous reception staff to the spacious and beautifully adorned rooms, the entire experience was delightful. We stayed in the Dr Theopolus Garencieres suite which had a tub unlike any I've ever seen; but, it seems that every room has it's own distinct personality and I doubt there's a stinker in the bunch. Wether they were delivering tea to the room or providing directions, the service staff were always very pleasant and accommodating. It felt like we had a team of butlers on call. The surrounding area came alive Saturday night with after-hour nightclubs and restaurants, but during the day it felt more like a neighborhood than a city. Clerkenwell, itself, has an interesting past worth investigating. For touring other parts of London, a tube stop is just a short block from the hotel which was great until the weekend. It appears that London is sprucing up for the Olympics and Farringdon station was closed for improvements the Saturday and Sunday we were there. There was no obvious indication about how long the improvements would take, but there are other tubes within walking distance so it was a minor inconvenience during our otherwise fantastic stay. The Rookery isn't a bargain monetarily, but if you're looking for a unique experience in a refined atmosphere, it's a great deal!

Amazing hotel
18th century hotel but updated to modern standards. Full of antiques and it was just gorgeous. Staff was great, very friendly. The lounges were comfortable and beautiful. Loved this hotel except for the fact there was no shower, only bathtubs with those handheld shower things. We got water all over the floor trying to take a shower. Still I loved the hotel and would recommend it. Very near Farringdon Station tube. Didn't eat there due to time constraints.

A Find!
A delightful change of pace from impersonal hotels with cookie-cutter decor, this has the cozy feel of a private club (old-fashioned tub, velvet draperies, antique furniture), with the conveniences of modern living (thick towels, good water pressure, lovely continental breakfast served in the room). It's well worth going a bit off the beaten track to stay here.

A Great Hotel
A great hotel, good location but limit your stay to weekdays due to the noisy drinking crowds that gather on Friday & Sat nights in the area around this hotel.
