It is great that this Travelodge has meals available, and is somewhere where a single femail traveller feels comfortable eating alone. A safe, convenient place to stay, which I would be happy to use again. More attantion to furnishings would be good eg: no drawers, no bedside table, shelf/desk on opposite side of the room to the mirror.

comfy and convenient

  • 31 Jul 2011
The Britannia is a fine place to stay in Manchester. It's right in the heart of the city and a five to 10 minute walk from the main rail station, Picadilly. We stayed on the fifth floor in a room not facing the street.(We asked for a quiet room). The minor note I'd make is that the evening was warm and with no ceiling fan and only a small window opening, it got quite warm, thought certainly not unbearable. Also I thought the price included brakfast but that was not the case. The ensuite facilties (shower and bath)were great, the vast window offered a view over the city and hotel staff were very friendly and stored our bags for some hours after check-out thus saving us from lugging them around until our late afternoon train. The central staircase in this heritage building is a sight to behold. I have no qualms recommending the Britannia in Manchester.

I stayed in room 460 I booked

  • Mr
  • 16 Aug 2010
I stayed in room 460 I booked a family room. The room inside was not big enough. Jacuzzi does not works. The most annoying thing was this horrible stair ramp inside the room which cuts the room into half and is so low that me and my partner got hit by it several times when trying to go near the table for dinning. Room is dull left side lamp was not working. The bed mattress is inclined downward on the right hand side my partner kept on slipping off it and where do I plug in my phone charger and laptop for work. NOT good experience.

The rooms are lovely, it's just a bit too faR away from the city centre. And not a lot of stuff around there. There's a tesco and a few takeaways and restaurants but that's about it. Great for value and spotlessly clean

Close to the airport, but not to Manchester.

  • elchuntytrucha
  • 26 Dec 2011
The hotel was decent overall. My two main issues with it was the lack of house cleaning. We asked the front desk to freshen up the room but they never came. The other issue was ho far it is from downtown Manchester. Its accessible I guess. If you take the number 41 bus it will take you to picadilly. But do not try to walk there by yourself. It is freaking far. It took 25 to 30 min on the bus. The other thing that i just cannot stand about some hotels, No wifi in the room. They have it in the lobby which is sufficient but god, why? Nice place to stay if you are on a budget, just make sure to calculate the 3- 5.40 pounds you will be spending everyday to be getting to the center and back to the hotel.

für englisches Mittelklassehotel sehr gut

  • null
  • 30 Mar 2012

  • 24 Feb 2012
We arrived into Manchester Airport (Terminal 2) extremely late and tired (almost midnight), but were picked up very quickly in the courtesy bus (airport staff advised us that it would have been a VERY long walk to the hotel from Terminal 2, and I would agree with them, once I saw the layout of the airport). We phoned from the courtesy phone in the Arrivals Hall, and the bus was there within 10 minutes. All the staff were extremely courteous and professional; the check-in guy (who received our phone call requesting the courtesy bus) had our paperwork ready by the time we walked through the door! The room was spacious, clean and comfortable. The bed was lovely and comfortable. The bathroom was modern and clean. Full Irish breakfast available at additional cost of £9.95 pp, or continental (more than enough for me) at £5.95. Both were good, and service was with a smile. Perfect for the price.

THis hotel has a good location,

THis hotel has a good location, being next to the main train station in Manchester. The rooms a large with very quait, with large windows the length of the room. If you need a bath you will need to ask, as some of the rooms have showers only. The breackfast is very good, there is a good selection for vegeterians. A good price and large rooms for Manchester.

Hotel old and different, would have been nice if breakfust was included instead of having to pay another £15 also some of the breakfast staff very slow, had to ask for tea and coffee, then the toast, then a fork, then spoons my breakfust was at this point cold!, no one appeared very interested. I would however go back again even though it is a little expensive, the location is resonable.

One word, FABULOUS!

  • 22 Jun 2010
I really enjoyed this hotel. It was right in the middle of the City Center, and close walking distance to everything. The train station is literally across the street, arriving from the Manchester Airport was super easy! The hotel was spotless, the service was superb and I have nothing but good things to say about this establishment. While checking in, the clerk asked if I wanted to leave a credit card on file in case I wanted to charge things to the room. Initially I said, no. She agreed and started writing a room number down. Then I changed my mind and said, yes. She looked up, smiled and then scribbled out the room number and wrote another room number (on a higher floor).I don't know if you get special service for leaving a card on file, but either way my room was excellent. The bathroom had a heated towel rack (fabulous!) and each day the room service keepers would deliver a bag of fresh towels and soaps to my doorstep (because I always leave the "Do Not Disturb" sign posted). I needed to print out boarding passes for my next flight and the clerk at the front desk let me use her computer to print out my passes. Too kind. There is no ice machine, but every time I needed ice I just asked the bartender at the restaurant/bar downstairs and he gladly provided ice.Truly a gem, and after talking to my UK friends, I got a better deal on the room than they could. Description
The Midland is conveniently located in the heart of the city centre, this Grade II listed icon oozes luxury, comfort and style, and enjoys a history that leaves other Manchester hotels out in the cold. The Midland has one of the grandest histories of all the hotels in Manchester. Over the course of its 100 year history The Midland Hotel in Manchester has welcomed many a King, Queen, President and Rock Star. And, should you choose to stay with us, it's where you will be treated like royalty too. The red-bricked Victoriana that Manchester is famous for is perfectly captured in the architecture of The Midland, setting it apart from some hotels in Manchester which lack the history and character of this grand hotel. The building's characteristic style continues inside, where you'll find opulent decor, rich fabrics and shimmering chandeliers. Stay in any one of the sumptuous bedrooms or suites to unwind after a hard day or gear up for the night to come. Enjoy some seriously extravagant dining with a choice of three restaurant options, one of which is the award-winning French Restaurant, voted one of the top restaurants in Manchester. Choose from 312 luxurious rooms and suites. Each suite has a unique style and offering that little extra that may tip you over into a state of delirious intoxication with the beauty of the place. A cold shower in the palatial bathroom should take care of that. These are modern, old fashioned grand rooms, individually designed and utterly striking, with tasteful tones and the odd splash of drama. At The Midland Hotel our on-site fitness gurus are here to show you how to use the various equipment within our leisure club and help you find the programmes that suit your level of fitness and your goals. There is also a newly refurbished squash court at the hotel which really does add to our uniqueness.

This is the most beautiful hotel we've stayed at yet. Everyone was very nice and helpful. The breakfast was fantastic and dining room beautiful. We were very thankful the concierge sold stamps: both postcards and international so that we could send things back home. We had no complaints with this hotel, and will return on our next trip to Manchester!

This was our second stay here,

  • Maria
  • 12 Jun 2011
This was our second stay here, the first was great. this time we found the carpet stained, the dvd not working and worst of all the black out blind had come unfastened at the top (high up approx 12 feet) so at 4.30 am sunlight flooded the room , so we were unable to sleep, my husband went to inform the 24hour night staff but there was no one at reception. so all in all not a five star visit . when we mentioned our complaints to reception they were not really intrested, but said mention it next time and we would be looked after , i carnt see there being a next time. all we got was the offer of free car parking and as we were not in the car park hardley any compensation for not sleeping in a bed room that costs over £ 200.00. bad show from manchesters premier hotel.

Not worth the full rate

  • MattyKHZ
  • 7 Dec 2011
1st of all I would reccommend Sunday Lunch in the Restaurant. I thought it was £30 for 3 courses and was pleasantly surprised when it was actually £20 per person. Even the wine which was a NZ Pinot Noir to go with the food was only £22 and a quick google showed it to be £11 to buy so not the usual 3 times (or more)cost here. We were running late due to motorway accident and staff were all very helpful and nice. In fact staff were pleasant throughout our stay. It was our wedding anniversary and I chose the Lowry for location as it is near the shops and MEN where we were seeing Coldplay on Sunday night. I asked for an ice bucket for our champagne but as this was £5 I just emptied the mini bar and cooled it in there. Staying the Sunday was a good rate at just over £120 for a riverside room. It was nearer £400 if on a Saturday or Monday so we only stayed one night. Room was large, comfortable and modern. Just not worth the full rate IMHO. If you are tall like me you have to bend down in the shower which is situated above the bath. Tea and Coffee making facilities have to be asked for. I would have preferred a boutique hotel with smaller room and nicer furnishings but this did the job.

While I looked forward to staying

  • Tim
  • 24 Nov 2009
While I looked forward to staying at this property - in reality my room was very noisy due to wood flooring throughout the property both within, and outside of the room. I found it difficult to sleep both nights and in the early morning due to people walking in the halls and knocking on the doors of others. To add to this the TV in the room had limited channels and the checkout process had to be done face-to-face...which was slow. The check-out receptionist did little more than take may card for payment - no thank you, how was your stay, etc. Very disappointing (and tiring)!
