The rooms are lovely, it's just a bit too faR away from the city centre. And not a lot of stuff around there. There's a tesco and a few takeaways and restaurants but that's about it. Great for value and spotlessly clean

Excellent for the price
Obviously not in the 5* bracket but we wanted somewhere clean and comfortable to stay for three nights. The decor is tired but we don't mind that. We liked the ambiance, and the low-priced, extensive hot and cold buffet breakfast has to be unbeatable. Best value for a night that we know - and we got cashback too.

Close to the airport, but not to Manchester.
The hotel was decent overall. My two main issues with it was the lack of house cleaning. We asked the front desk to freshen up the room but they never came. The other issue was ho far it is from downtown Manchester. Its accessible I guess. If you take the number 41 bus it will take you to picadilly. But do not try to walk there by yourself. It is freaking far. It took 25 to 30 min on the bus. The other thing that i just cannot stand about some hotels, No wifi in the room. They have it in the lobby which is sufficient but god, why? Nice place to stay if you are on a budget, just make sure to calculate the 3- 5.40 pounds you will be spending everyday to be getting to the center and back to the hotel.

Short walk from hotel
Right down the street there is a kebab/pizza/burger place called Robin Hood. My gf and I went down there one night after coming back from piccadilly and ordered a meal deal that was a 3 or 4 topping pizza with two sodas and a "12 in garlic and cheese bread for 10 pounds. It seemed like a good deal already so we walked back to the room with two pizza boxes in hand. Maybe its a british thing or maybe its just them, but the "12 inch garlic and cheese bread was a f**king CHEESE PIZZA! That was a wonderful surprise at 2 in the morning.

A very pleasant surprise !
We booked in for four days then saw some bad reviews, as such we arrived with a lot of doubt about our stay. Although the hotel is looking somewhat tired and in need of renovation, this was more than made up for by the excellent staff. Nothing was too much trouble for these people. The bar staff especially made us feel so welcome we were sorry to leave. Don't always trust bad reviews, some people are very fussy and want 5 star treatment for 2 star prices. Well done to the staff at the Britania Hotel and we look forward to staying with you again.

Just up the road a few hundred yards is a pub called the Farmers Arms, good beer, good food and very friendly locals and staff.

Practical location to the airport
The hotel was OK, it advertised free shuttle but it was not free for Orbitz clikents, I guess because we get a cheaper price, the wake up call happened one hour before than requested??? it is an OK hotel for the price and well located to get to the airport.

THEY SHOULDN'T BE IN BUSINESS!
What a nightmare! First off, they ADMIT at the Front Desk that they don't answer the shuttle phone at the airport (I didn't even know if they were still in business!) Second, they have NO marked pick-up spot for the shuttle. Thirdly, the shuttle is SUPPOSED to run every 15 minutes -- it took TWO HOURS to show up. Fourth -- the place is extremely beat up: The "business center" computer is "out of order" as are the two pool tables (torn up felt). Only one elevator (out of 3) is working and THAT doesn't have matched buttons to push for a given floor (NO joke! - push Ground Floor for Third Floor). Fifth -- heat doesn't work in the rooms. Sixth -- "Continental" breakfast is almost non-existent - plan on paying for the full breakfast instead.

Everything a hotel shouldn't be.....
Worst hotel I have ever stayed in, and I've stayed in a few. Filthy hotel with inattentive, rude, uninterested, lazy and sloppily dressed staff. The Duty Manager was the only shining light in this dark hole of a hotel. When considering somewhere to stay, do yourself a favour and go elsewhere.

Good for a night
Have stayed here 5 times as a "night before flight hotel." This was the worst stay. Staff non-existant when I arrived and not too friendly when they finally showed up. Room was not very clean and TV didn't work. Construction going on and there was an awful chemical smell in the halls and elevators. Will stay again because its convenient, but hope they finish up cleaning up soon!

"so, so for one night"
The carpet was old, torn and patched up with masking tape, which had partly curled up, exposing its sticky surface. Room had low heat, but the staff promply provided portable heater. The room was slightly smelly with suggestion of use of deodorant spray to mask the smell.
