they don't care for guests

My second worst hotel experience ever. And I have visited third-world countries, too. Things got to an early start upon arrival. Raining outside, I walked into the hotel reception area, to be greeted not by a warm welcome, but with a sour face from the girl at reception, who at first couldn't find my booking, then found it when I gave her my reservation number, then lost it and had to have the reservation number again, etc. all in a very rude manner. I had the chance to observe her check in other guests as well later on, as I was queueing to speak to someone (more on which later), and she was equally rude to everyone, including an asian couple, two polish girls and an english family, so the good news is that she does not discriminate. Going up to my room and opening the door, I was surprised to find it REALLY cold, and it remained cold after I had shut the window. Cold air was emanating from a ventilator near the window, which also produced a loud hissing noise. I went back down to the reception, queued again, and spoke to another receptionist, who assured me that she would have maintenance look into the matter asap. Two and a half hours later, I came back from dinner to find the room in the exact same condition, cold and with a noise that would prevent anyone who does not require a hearing aid to get a good night's sleep. Back down to the reception desk, as the phone in the room was not working, the same girl who had assured me blah blah blah, did her best to demonstrate genuine surprise when I told her that nothing had been done. She casually informed me that unfortunately maintenance had gone home (it was 20:30 on new years's eve), and there was nothing that could be done until the next day. I persisted, wishing to sleep in a warm and silent room, so a young man came out of the office behind her and offered to come upstairs and have a look. Long story short, there was nothing he could do either, the ventilator was even missing its lid, meaning it couldn't be turned to (hopefully) close, he offered to stuff it with toilet paper for me, which I declined. After he had gone, I turned on what looked like an air conditioning unit on the wall, hoping to at least minimize the cold, but the air coming out of it was not even warm, just not as cold as the air in the room. Another hour later, the room was no warmer. My stay in the hotel was for two nights, nothing else was done, not even on the next day, when I had been told that something might be fixed. That's my main gripe with your hotel, but, since I am filing a complaint I would also like to make the following points: - The windows were remarkably filthy, even the inside ones. - One of the handles on the window was broken. - The drain in the bath was blocked. - The drain in the left-hand wash basin was also blocked. - One of the lights in the bathroom was not working - The front left leg of the chair was broken. - There were marks on the walls, stains on the carpet, paint residue in on of the armchairs. I love manchester, but I'll steer clear of this hotel for the foreseeable.

Good location but service can be improved

The hotel is located in central Manchester, and even though it is a bit pricey the room was very nice (including a nice bath). However, the heating did not properly work, the staff wasn't always helpful (only the person on the booking could check in, and a fellow traveller could only check in if the booking would be changed instead of just showing the booking email), and the reception area is very crowded. It was nice for them to offer a luggage room so we didn't have to carry our luggage during the day, but one of the suitcases got almost taken by someone else since staff weren't paying attention.

A Visit To Manchester

I've read the reviews of this hotel prior to booking which were not very good but I decided to check it for myself. Overall I had pleasant night sleep as the bed was comfortable but my stay was not so comfortable. I had no wifi access even though they advertised they had. Connection would come and go frequently which restricted me from obtaining emails. The washing facility I.e bath/shower were difficult to adjust whether I required hot/cold water meaning it was difficult to was myself. Room service was not what I expected as I had to go to reception to get clean towels, tea and coffee. Location was perfectly situated by Picadilly, telephone within bedroom didn't work so I couldn't call reception I had to travel through the maze of a hotel on fifth floor to elevator should I require their assistance. Its a cheap budget hotel so I guess you really do get what you pay for.

Terrible! Rude staff and manager

I booked for a double room non smoking. The lady gave me a damp room, stank of wet moist damp the carpets were wet. Dirty room. I went back and asked the lady working in reception and she rolled her eyes at me. I asked to speak to the manager and patiently waited for 10min and she came back and told me that the manager is to busy for this. In shock I asked again for the manager as I payed for a room and at least give me the attention and respect to speak to someone. The manager eventually came out to see me after literally asking many times, I then told the manager that the lady working in reception was being rude and rolled her eyes and did not treat customers with respect and the MANAGER replied forget her leave her I'm talking to you, instead of apologising or listening she avoided my complaint. The lady working in reception began to argue back with me infront of the manager. Worst experience felt like there were no professional approach or respect. & they tried telling me to call the company to get refund instead of giving me an alternative room. Wifi is terrible! Worst experience ever!!!!!! They need to train their staff. The girl who was being rude had an Irish accent.

You get what you pay for

Cons: This was a last minute booking on a busy Friday in Manchester, so room options and price deals were limited. Like it's sister hotel, the Britannia, if you get an internal room (no windows) they are very, often uncomfortably warm. It has seen better days - furniture and fixings all a bit tatty. Pros: Staff were friendly and helpful. Very central location.
