Our rooms were not 4 star standard

As soon as we walked into our room 361, the unpleasant smell was over bearing. Bathroom had definitely been neglected. Wooden flooring and underneath the sink, was black from mould and had holes. The ceiling was dirty with mould and peeling paper. This was also the case in our friends room next door. Electric sockets kept cutting out, so couldnt charge up our phones or use our hair straighteners. Luckily, we were able to use our friends room next door. Overall, poor quality room and def not 4 star standard.

Coldplay Weekend

Hotel was lovely, very oldy worldy but rooms very modern. Great location, only a short walk into the centre along Canal St. The bedroom was very modern, bathroom lighting was v dark though. The only other negative was getting a knock on the door from the cleaners at 9.30am Sunday morning wanting to clean our room!! Not impressed when the night before was a v late one! Would definelty stay again though.

cold and no way near a 4 star room!!!

The location of the hotel is the only saving grace of this so called 4 star hotel! The first room we were given was totally unacceptable with 2 stand alone electric heaters positioned in the middle of the room which were so woefully inadequate for the job they were supposed to do. In the corner of the room the rising damp had obviously got way out of control so we decided to ask for a room change which to the credit of the reception staff we were given straight away. The second room was a major improvement until we found out that the shower didnt work! We asked to be moved again and finally we were given a room that allowed us to be comfortable, until we found out that aircon did not work. Too tired to move again we were both so let down by the hotel on what was supposed to be a well deserved night out in a great city. Bit of advice for the Palace hotel..dont try to fob off old and tired rooms to guests when you have far more superior rooms available, I would have thought in these economically hard times repeat business would have been a priority....we however shall never return!

hotel with a personality, variety

hotel with a personality, variety of rooms and views. handy location opposite to the railway connection to the airport. walking distance to central attractions and shopping, also fair walking distance from the universities. rooms vary a lot indeed, mine was closer to the canal while friends stayed upstairs in more historical rooms - all were comfortable, nice and well appointed. fabulous breakfast with masses of choices and nice service. architectural masterpiece.

Hotel old and different, would

Hotel old and different, would have been nice if breakfust was included instead of having to pay another £15 also some of the breakfast staff very slow, had to ask for tea and coffee, then the toast, then a fork, then spoons my breakfust was at this point cold!, no one appeared very interested. I would however go back again even though it is a little expensive, the location is resonable.

Typical English Hotel- Never Again

I live in Manchester and when my family finally decided to come to visit the Palace Hotel came into my mind due to its close location to my house as well as the close proximity to the city centre. I am aware that the standard of Hotels in the UK is bad compared to Europe but I was shocked about the standard of the Palace hotel, a supposedly 4 star hotel. Upon arrival we arrived in a spacious and traditional reception area which gave an excellent first impression. Check-in was fast and staff very friendlily... but it went downhill from there. When I opened the hotel room I immediately had a sniff of old and antique carpets. On the plus side it was a very spacious room however the smell was horrible so I demanded another room. Again the staff was very apologetic and gave us another room. Upon arrival in the 2nd room the size together with the bed shrunk by half which wasn't the worst. Half of the halogen lights in the bathroom did not work., the shower head was hanging only from one screw with rust, hinting that this room has not been used for a while. But the worst part was when I opened the window and sliding the curtains to one side. The whole window and the wall beneath was covered in mould. It had been painted over but the whole wall had mould bubbles. Now this was not acceptable and this is a health risk and I can not understand how ; firstly a hotel can be open with mouldy rooms or secondly how any health agency can give the Palace hotel a 4 star rating. We had to change again to another room which then was more or less ok. The room still had mould outside the old windows but we were tired and wanted to sleep. Of course at 7am in the morning Manchester city Council decided to start opening Oxford road with lots of construction noise. Overall a very disappointing stay in the Palace hotel. When showing staff the faulty rooms most of them turned red of embarrassment and I am aware that the condition of the hotel is by no means the staffs fault. However paying almost £300 for two nights was a big rip off. The Palace hotel is not even close to a 4 star standard . In Europe it would have been forced to close by any health agency. I do not recommend anybody staying there. There is a new Holiday Inn Express across the street and I'm sure that they are able to offer better quality for a much better price.
