As I pulled into the car park I was somewhat suspicious of the hotel itself, the fading plastic trims, the chipped paintwork and ill-hung flag sitting just above half mast and whilst the building itself looked as though it died a death a long time ago, thankfully the staff were very much alive and extremely helpful! I had accidentally booked a 'twin room', not a 'double room', but managed to get another room arranged without any hassle. The elderly gentleman running the graveyard shift on reception was extremely pleasant and courteous when I asked about the wifi, and the cleaning lady I spoke to the first morning of my visit seemed almost too eager to comply with my somewhat late request to have my room cleaned. So yes, the bed had the consistency of 2 month old custard wrapped in stiffened linen, the shower was a somewhat daunting experience, and the T.V looked like a wedding presents my parents would have received in the 80s, but it was considerably cheaper than the more exquisite inn across the road (Apparently I'm not allowed to reference travel brands), the location was great, the car park was free, and the staff (that I seen anyway) were more than happy to help with all of my silly little queries! All in all, 4 out of 5 for effort!

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

If you are looking for a place to stay in the city centre but are put off by the prices, you'll find that the Britannia Newcastle airport hotel will probably be cheaper and it's only a short walk from the Metro station in the airport where a day saver for 3 zones (which I think covers most of Newcastle) was only £4.20!

OK

It is what it is. Not necessarily cheap for quite a shabby hotel. If you were using it pre-flight, then the location is excellent, within walking distance of the terminal. Definitely overpriced.

Modest and convenient

Restaurant was expensive. Price was good. convenient to airport and Metro. We would have like a double bed which wasn't available.
