Wonderful

My wife and I stayed for 2 nights in August, and it was the highlight of our weeks tour of Shropshire. The hotel is a lovely old building in beautiful grounds, very quiet and peaceful. Staff are brilliant, nothing was too much trouble. We had booked our spa treatments well in advance, so had no problems getting what we wanted and when. The treatments were stunning - I had never had this type of treatment before, and it was amazing! we ate in the restaurant one evening, and while it was not cheap, it was excellent quality. A bit short on vegetarian options, but staff assured us they would sort something different out if we wanted to eat there again. Breakfast was great too, with lots of choice. We will definitely be returning.

Beautiful grounds but meh experience

When we got there they told us they didn't get our reservations. We had to wait for a hour before they prepared our rooms (this was 2AM). The second room turned out to have been used by one of the staff members, who the next day came in and used the bathroom even though we had our stuff in there. The manager apologized, and assured us that they would make up for it in the form of tea on the grounds. We had understood that to mean that they would supply some sorrow a lunch, as it turned out they quite literally just meant tea. Overall, inadequate response to an outrageous situation. Other than that the grounds and hotel itself are lovely, but the service and professionalism was lacking.

a little breather

Working from home is ideal but sometimes you don't properly 'switch off' unless you 'get away'. 24 hours is all we wanted and its a pleasant, easy trip by car from the big city birmingham to Shropshire. Hotel easy to find just north of Shrewsbury, we wondered whether we'd missed a nought off the room price; very good looking house and pleasant gardens - all to be explored again, sometime. Staff on reception efficient and extremely welcoming, overcoming a hiccup with my credit card without an eyelid batted. Weddings seemed to be popular at least 2 parties arriving or leaving - al the receptionists were kind, enthusiastic and unfazed with everyone we saw. Our room was in the SchoolMasters house; comfortably converted from 20th century school I assume. Large spacious bathroom, good bed and chairs. Can never quite get the best form the TV - it promised music from my phone would play - but no. never mind. We didnt want the spa treatments but took advantage of the pool and thermal rooms ...wonderful way to spend early friday evening. a few kids, a few adults all calm, warm, clean and stylish. very relaxing. Dinner- great food, I was surprised by the quality, feared it might be rather anonymous and not so expensive ether. Friendly -but not overfriendly -staff Again! Intended to rise early and swim again, but felt too relaxed . Really was just what we needed, and the staff were exceptionally good - always attentive but not creepy or over weening. Can imagine a great place for weddings and receptions and we, at least, did not have our tranquility disturbed one bit . If we can afford it again, I definitely try for more than just one night.

3 days away

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Staff very friendly and approachable. The location was beautiful with the hotel being sympathetically modernised but not to the detriment of it's original purpose. Food was excellent. Our room was in the roof area, but was spacious, warm and comfortable with views over the rooftops of the hotel. This was especially atmospheric when there was s light fall of snow on our first morning there. We explored Shrewsbury, Ironbridge and the charming Much Wenlock ( Wednesday half day closing). On our journey home we called in on Battlefield 1403 on the A49 , part of the Albrighton estate. We brushed up on the history of that area, had a delicious lunch and spent plenty in the shop and butchers on site.

Room left something to be desired

The hotel is in gorgeous grounds and the staff were friendly however the room could have been better. When we arrived there were someone elses socks & old contact lenses on the floor!

OK, but not very convenient

We were hoping to spend some time exploring Shrewsbury, but the hotel was not close to the city center, and did not have available public transportation. Having to drive and park in the city was not our preference.
