- Set on a ridge overlooking the Stour Valley, Stoke by Nayland which is known as an 'Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty'. This is a delightful Suffolk village largely unchanged in the cent-re is St Mary's Church which dates from the 14th and 15th Centuries, famous for its 120 foot perpendicular red brick tower. Once a market town it is characterized by traditional country cottages painted shades of 'Suffolk pink', set amongst timber framed buildings including Guildhall and Mal-tings. It is also the home of two 18 hole golf courses in 300 acres of stunning landscape. The area is also well known by keen and leisurely walkers, with beautiful paths running through picturesque river valleys. Other idyllic villages are Polstead, Higham and East Bergholt; it's also worth a visit to the many galleries, craft shops and medieval churches.
